Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Friday, June 5th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
The Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, hosted a ceremony to honor and acknowledge the efforts of students that took part in its traffic-related radio awareness campaign, which was implemented as a part of the GCC Traffic Week. The honoring ceremony was attended by Major Fawaz Ali Abdullah, Director of Security Media Department; Major Mohammed Sultan Al Bloushi, Chief of the Support Services Section at the department; and representatives of the honored schools.
Alia Al Rumaithi, Radio Branch Manager at the Security Media Department, indicated that this experience is particularly important because it engages an elite group of students to educate parents. “The students assume a leading role in the activities rather than being mere recipients of the information that is disseminated. This method has proved to be most useful at the academic and scientific levels,” said Ms. Al Rumaithi. Furthermore, she noted that mobilizing students to deliver these messages to their parents and colleagues lends an extra dimension to the event and contributes to the dissemination of the noble message that was advocated by the GCC Traffic Week, which was held under the slogan “Your Choice Determines Your Destiny”.
Adding further, Radio Branch Manager indicated that the successful experience was organized in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC). She said: “We will endeavor to further develop, improve and make good use of this valuable experience, to engage more segments of society in the future. The campaign was highly and widely acclaimed by the media, and by official and public figures; who praised the valuable and successful awareness messages delivered by the community’s youth. .”
For its part, the Strategic Communications and Media Division at the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) lauded the initiative, and pledged to participate with other government institutions in such initiatives, especially the ones that include awareness and educational values such as the GCC Traffic Week. According to the division, students are a major and essential part of road users and transport means; hence the importance of involving them and raising their awareness about public safety matters.
It is worth mentioning that the honored students were selected in collaboration with the Abu Dhabi Education Council to participate in the awareness campaigns organized by the Radio Branch at the Security Media Department. As a part of these campaigns, awareness messages were broadcasted via various radio stations across the UAE in three languages (English, Arabic and Urdu), targeting students’ parents and members of the public of all nationalities. The messages were broadcasted live across radio stations and Abu Dhabi Police’s social networking sites and were highly acclaimed by the public.
