ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, June 11th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
The Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi, represented by Al Ain Residency and Foreigners Affairs, organized an outreach program to enhance awareness of its staff members and customers on the health risks of smoking. The event was organized in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), to mark the World No Tobacco Day and featured a myriad of events that focused on health risks associated with tobacco use.
As a part of the program, the Media and Public Relations team at the Department distributed health awareness leaflets. SEHA doctors conducted routine medical examinations, and highlighted the adverse impacts of smoking on human life. They also called upon smokers to leverage the World No Tobacco Day (during which tobacco users worldwide abstain from using tobacco products for 24 hours) to quit the bad and harmful habit of smoking. “Reducing the adverse effects and health damages of smoking is a public health priority for SEHA, as a part of its program to improve the health status in the country,” they said.
According to SEHA doctors, statistics carried out annually indicate that smoking is the leading cause behind a wide number of chronic diseases and deaths. The fight against the epidemic of tobacco use amongst the different segments of society is an important criterion that reflects countries’ awareness and their keenness to preserve the health of their citizens.
Colonel Khalifa Matar Balquba' Al Humairi, Director of the Residency and Foreigners' Affairs Center in Al Ain honored the doctors from the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) for participating in the awareness program.
