Al Ain Intensifies Traffic Control on Roads and Mall Areas

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, June 21st 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police has intensified traffic control on internal and external roads, near malls and their surrounding areas, and in other areas that witness high traffic in Al Ain. This step aims to foster safety and traffic flow during Ramadan within the framework of a comprehensive plan that aims to limit the causes of accidents and the related fatalities and injuries.

Colonel Hamad Nasser Al Bloushi, Head of Peripheral Regions Traffic Department at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at the Abu Dhabi Police, called upon motorists to adhere to the traffic law and the designated speed limits. He urged drivers to fasten seatbelts, use indicators, check the road before making any left or right turn, pay attention to pedestrians and give them priority at crosswalks, and to reduce speeds in residential areas and other locations with high volumes of pedestrians.

He also advised drivers to pull over and park on the hard shoulder of the road if they feel exhausted or tired. This is especially necessary during the month of Ramadan and for those with high blood pressure or diabetes, where the attention levels of drivers tend to decrease due to the physical changes that occur in the body as a result of fasting.

Colonel Al Bloushi also pointed out to the collaboration between Al Ain Traffic and the Al Ihsan Charity Association and to their joint humanitarian role in distributing 30,000 Iftar meals for drivers. Traffic patrols will be roaming the roads during the Maghrib call to prayer in order to provide Iftar meals to drivers.

Lt. Colonel Salah Abdullah Al Hemairi, Chief of the Al Ain Traffic Section, noted that the number of patrols will be increased during rush hours. He encouraged drivers to avoid the causes of accidents during Ramadan; such as staying up too late, which results in exhaustion and lack of concentration while behind the wheel.

He also noted that the Section is taking part in organizing tournaments, and other events during Ramadan, including "Mir Ramadan" baskets containing multiple food items in the Industrial Area and company accommodations. The Section will also intensify traffic awareness activities throughout Ramadan.

Lt. Colonel Al Hemairi also called upon drivers and the members of the public to cooperate with traffic police officers. He also stressed on the Directorate’s commitment to build bridges of cooperation with the public, and to encourage them to report to the Operations Room regarding any violation that other drivers might commit.
