Gulf National Arrested in Possession of 35K Narcotic Pills and 6kg Hashish in Ras Al Khaimah

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Monday, June 22nd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

A joint team from the Ras Al Khaimah Police and Um Al Quwain Police arrested a Gulf national in possession of 35,000 narcotic pills and 6 kilograms of hashish that he had smuggled via the Ras Al Darah border post in Ras Al Khaimah.

In a statement from the Ministry of Interior (MoI), the Anti-Narcotics Department at the Ras Al Khaimah Police had received a confirmed tip-off about a Gulf national who had managed to smuggle drugs into the UAE via the Ras Al Darah border post. The suspect was planning to sell and deliver the drugs to two other Arabs residing in the UAE.

In coordination with the customs officers at the Al Darah border post, the police searched the vehicle as if naturally facilitating transit procedures in order to avoid arousing the suspicion of the suspect. It appeared that in an attempt to clear himself of any suspicion, the suspect had brought his wife and children with him. Upon the suspect’s allowed entry into the UAE, the research, investigation, and follow-up team of the Ras Al Khaimah Police monitored and pursued the suspect until he reached Um Al Quwain. There, the team coordinated with the Anti-Narcotics Department at Um Al Quwain Police to conduct an ambush and apprehend the suspect.

Upon searching the vehicle, the police found 35,000 narcotic pills and 6kg of hashish that the suspect had hidden in secret pockets and compartments. The police additionally set up an ambush for the remaining two individuals who planned to buy the drugs from the Gulf national, and arrested the two Arab nationals in Um Al Quwain.
