Eight in 10 Professionals Surveyed Say AI Will Boost Restructuring Efficiency, but Execution Gaps Remain

 WILMINGTON, Del. -

82% expect AI to significantly improve restructuring efficiency and decision-making

80% value early governance support, but only 24% involve it at that stage

43% cite role clarity and cross-border SPV administration as the top execution challenges

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- More than eight in 10 (82%) restructuring professionals expect AI to significantly improve efficiency and decision-making. At the same time, operational readiness and experienced human judgment will remain critical to successful execution. This is according to new research from CSC, the leading provider of global business administration and compliance solutions.

CSC surveyed 210 professionals globally across banking and financial services, restructuring and turnaround consulting, legal services, and private credit to examine the operational factors shaping restructuring execution1. The findings are detailed in CSC’s guide The Restructuring Execution Gap—Why operational readiness determines outcomes.

Respondents see the clearest potential applications in information gathering, KYC mapping, communications, administration, and monitoring—areas where AI could help reduce friction and accelerate processes rather than replace professional expertise.

However, the optimism around AI has a complex backdrop, with execution risk spread across several interconnected operational challenges rather than one single bottleneck. Clarifying roles and responsibilities and administering SPVs or restructuring vehicles efficiently across jurisdictions are joint leading challenges, each cited by 43% of respondents. Managing cross-border complexity and time zones follows closely at 42%, while 39% point to the speed of onboarding or appointment, including AML/KYC.

“AI has the potential to support decision making and streamline some of the behind the scenes work that goes into the restructuring process. But technology works best when it complements experienced professional judgment. The real opportunity is in combining the right tools with people who understand the complexities of restructuring and know how to apply them effectively,” says Sean Foronjy, director, Corporate Trust and Agency, CSC,

The research also points to a timing issue: operational support is not always brought into a restructuring as early as professionals believe it would be valuable. While 80% consider governance services very or quite valuable at the early stage, only 24% say those services were first involved then. The same pattern appears for SPV and entity services, at 67% versus 25%, and corporate trust and agency services, at 56% versus 15%.

The findings also show strong demand for integrated and experienced restructuring support.

Jordina Walker, head of Restructuring and Special Situations EMEA, CSC, adds, “Commercial decisions can take months, but once parties know what they want to do, they want to move very fast. At that point, the question becomes less about whether a restructuring route is viable and more about how quickly the necessary entities, appointments, documentation, and support can be put in place.”

An overwhelming majority (83%) of respondents rate the ability to provide governance and director services, SPV administration, and trust and agency capabilities in one place as important, while 77% say the same about demonstrated restructuring and distressed-situation experience. The findings underline that, as restructurings become more complex and cross-border, execution readiness increasingly depends on having the right expertise, infrastructure and support in place before timelines become compressed.

Murata Develops World’s Smallest 008004-inch Size (0.25mm × 0.125mm) NTC Thermistor for Space-Constrained Temperature Sensing

 KYOTO, Japan -

(BUSINESS WIRE)--Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd. (TOKYO: 6981) (ISIN: JP3914400001) announces the development of the world’s smallest* 008004-inch size (0.25mm × 0.125mm) NTC thermistor, the NCU01 series. Compared with Murata’s previous smallest 01005-inch size (0.4mm × 0.2mm) product, the new series reduces mounting area by approximately 60% while achieving equivalent temperature-sensing performance, with resistance tolerance of ±1% and B-constant tolerance of ±1%. Its ultra-compact size enables temperature sensing to be positioned in increasingly restricted spaces and closer to heat-generating components, supporting more accurate and responsive thermal monitoring in smartphones, wearable devices, and other densely integrated electronic devices.

Murata plans to begin sample shipments in October 2026 and mass production during 2027. The lineup will be expanded progressively, beginning with 100kΩ and 10kΩ resistance values.

Bringing Temperature Sensing Closer to the Heat Source

As electronic devices continue to become smaller and more sophisticated, component density on circuit boards and inside modules continues to increase. As a result, mounting space for electronic components is limited, making it difficult to place NTC thermistors close to heat-generating components. If a thermistor must be placed farther from the heat source, the measured temperature can differ from the actual component temperature, while rapid temperature changes may also take longer to detect.

This creates a demand for smaller NTC thermistors that can be positioned closer to critical components without consuming valuable board space. However, continued miniaturization makes high-precision processing and manufacturing more difficult, making it more challenging to maintain consistent sensing characteristics. For NTC thermistors, tight resistance and B-constant tolerances are critical to enable stable temperature sensing.

High-Precision Performance at 008004-inch Size

Murata addressed these challenges through its proprietary ceramic materials technology, high-precision processing, and optimization of the component structure and manufacturing process to develop the world’s smallest 008004-inch size NTC thermistor. Despite its significantly smaller footprint, the new NCU01 series maintains the ±1% resistance and B-constant tolerances achieved by Murata’s previous 01005-inch size product.

By reducing the mounting area by approximately 60%, the NCU01 can be placed in locations that are difficult to accommodate with larger thermistors, including closer to heat-generating components. This can help reduce the temperature difference and detection delay associated with more distant measurement points while contributing to the stable operation of electronic devices with high-density component layouts.

Primary applications include temperature monitoring on circuit boards in smartphones and wearable devices, as well as in integrated circuit (IC) packages and system-in-package (SiP) modules.

Murata will continue to expand its NTC thermistor lineup and contribute to further miniaturization and improved reliability of electronic devices. For product inquiries, please contact us here.

Notes: * Based on Murata research as of October 19, 2026.

Parse Biosciences Launches Evercode MAX, Enabling Researchers to Profile More Cells and Samples with Greater Flexibility

New modular platform gives researchers greater control over sample and cell throughput while optimizing value

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Parse Biosciences, the leading provider of scalable and accessible single cell sequencing and a QIAGEN company, today announced that Evercode™ MAX, a modular configuration of its flagship Evercode single cell sequencing platform, is now shipping to customers. Using the same instrument-free workflow, researchers can profile up to 2.5 times as many cells across up to twice as many samples within their existing budget, or run the same experiment at roughly half the overall cost.

Evercode MAX enables researchers to build a kit configuration around their experiment, with sample barcoding and library preparation as independent kits. Evercode MAX is available for Whole Transcriptome, WT FFPE, TCR, BCR, and CRISPR Detect. With configurations supporting up to 384 samples and 2 million cells, researchers can prioritize more samples to characterize biological variation or more cells per sample to resolve rare populations and subtle cell states.

That flexibility extends to value as well. Because Evercode MAX enables more samples and cells in a single experiment, cost per sample drops by up to 58%. Researchers can also match library prep capacity to their target cell count and save any unused library prep reactions for future experiments. As a result, they decide how many cells to sequence per sample while getting more out of the reagents they buy.

According to Nicholas Jendzjowsky, PhD, Assistant Professor-in-Residence at The Lundquist Institute, who recently chose Evercode MAX, “Flexible is how I’d describe Evercode MAX. For our planned experiments, we could essentially do two experiments for the price of one. That made the decision pretty easy.”

According to Charlie Roco, PhD, Co-founder and Chief Technology Officer at Parse, “Evercode MAX is the direct result of feedback from our customers. Every lab has different priorities when scaling a single cell study, whether it be more samples, more cells, or a tighter budget, and this gives them the ability to make that call themselves instead of settling for a kit that only solves for one variable.”

Evercode MAX runs on the same v4 chemistry as existing Evercode kits, with sensitive gene and transcript detection, efficient sequencing, and increased cell recovery.

To learn more about Evercode MAX, visit Parse at the American Society of Human Genetics (ASHG) conference October 20-24 in Montreal, Canada, in booth #801 or visit the Evercode MAX product page.

Unlocking Digital Gold’s US$700bn Opportunity

LAS VEGAS - Tuesday, 20. October 2026 AETOSWire Print

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- The digital gold market, worth US$45–55bn today, could unlock up to US$700bn in latent demand, according to new research from World Gold Council and Boston Consulting Group. The report points to substantial untapped appetite among retail investors, with nearly nine in ten surveyed saying they would consider digital gold under the right conditions.

The US$700bn opportunity represents the report’s estimate of total latent demand that could be released if today’s barriers to adoption were removed, rather than a near-term forecast. The report’s five-year base case sees digital gold growing by around 27% a year to US$160–170bn by 2031. That could rise to US$270–280bn over the same time if more barriers fall faster.

Momentum is already building as financial markets undergo a broader digital transformation, bringing tokenised investment products increasingly into the mainstream. Tokenised gold, one segment of the digital gold market alongside vaulted digital gold, has grown fivefold in value since late 2024 to around US$6bn. Cumulative spot trading volumes in tokenised gold exceeded US$90bn in the first quarter of 2026, more than in the whole of 2025.

What holds investors back is not a lack of interest but four key barriers: trust, access, utility and cost. Trust is the swing factor. Investors point to stronger consumer protections, transparent proof of backing, accessible redemption and clearer regulation as the conditions most likely to increase confidence in digital gold. Access is another important barrier to address. Where digital gold is sold through familiar channels such as super-apps, payment platforms and banking apps, as in China, India and Indonesia, the share of investors who hold it is currently up to seven times higher than in less mature markets.

Solving for those barriers could expand the gold market, rather than just redistribute demand. Around 65% of the latent demand sits with people who do not yet own gold. Among today’s digital gold investors, 52% held no gold before their first digital purchase, of which 92% have since bought other forms of gold, highlighting the report’s finding that digital gold can act as an entry point to the wider gold market. Even allowing for some movement between existing gold products, the base case points to around US$95bn of genuinely new demand for gold by 2031. Younger investors are leading the way: awareness of digital gold reaches 50% among 25–34-year-olds, compared with 23% among those aged 55 and over.

David Tait, Chief Executive Officer, World Gold Council, commented:

“Significant investor interest in digital gold is clear, but demand cannot scale without the right infrastructure behind it. That is the role Gold as a Service is designed to play. As shared infrastructure in development, it aims to help issuers bring competitive, compliant digital gold products to market more efficiently, supported by the sourcing, custody and compliance capabilities they would otherwise need to build themselves. But infrastructure alone is not enough. Building a liquid, trusted market will require the wider industry to work to the same standards, so investors can have confidence in what they are buying.”

Urs Rahne, Managing Director and Partner, Boston Consulting Group, commented:

“We undertook this project with the belief that gold has the potential to become the world’s most credible digital asset - not despite its physical nature, but because of it. Our research has reinforced our confidence in the scale of this opportunity and provided a clearer understanding of what it will take to realise its full potential.”

92% of Compliance Leaders Want External Certification on AI Agents. None Exists for On-Chain Risk. Elliptic Just Built It, for Free.

 LAS VEGAS -

Elliptic Institute launches the first certification in agentic AI for on-chain risk and compliance, grounded in the principles of the Elliptic Standard.

(BUSINESS WIRE)--Elliptic, the leader in on-chain risk management, today launched the first certification in governing AI agents for on-chain risk and financial crime compliance from the Elliptic Institute. The Certified Agentic On-Chain Risk Practitioner (CAORP) Foundation Level is free and open to anyone in the industry. The certification follows new Elliptic research in which 92% of senior risk, compliance and financial crime professionals said they would consider sending staff for external certification in agentic AI risk governance.

The global research1 found a wide gap between that appetite and teams' current capability. Only 16% of respondents said they were very confident their team has the skills to govern an AI agent today, while 38% said they were not confident at all or had no capability yet. Nearly a third (31%) expect to send staff for certification within the next 12 months. The demand for training has arrived well ahead of anywhere to get it.

The timing isn't optional. The EU AI Act now requires organizations deploying AI to take measures supporting their staff's AI literacy, a duty that was held through this year's Digital Omnibus revision. The Financial Stability Board's sound practices for AI adoption name staff capability as one of the conditions for sustaining it. Regulators are asking who on a compliance team is actually qualified to oversee an agent. Right now, most firms don't have a clean answer.

The Elliptic Institute’s CAORP runs through five modules in two parts. The first establishes core vocabulary (model, generative model, agent) and the four positions of human oversight, alongside the regulatory sources now shaping expectations. The second is built around three jobs for the compliance professional in an agentic era: Define the boundaries an agent may act within, step in when it moves outside them and own the decisions it cannot close. Each job is taught through the principles of the Elliptic Standard.

"People in this industry are being asked to sign off on agents nobody has formally trained them to oversee," said Simone Maini, CEO at Elliptic. “Our own research confirmed it: 92% of compliance leaders told us they want training and certification. So we built it for the industry.”

The certification is free and open to everyone on Elliptic’s website. Elliptic is at Money20/20 USA, October 18 to 21, at stand 14132.

About the Elliptic Institute

Elliptic Institute stewards the Elliptic Standard and convenes the industry on what it takes for the practitioner to grow and succeed in the agentic era, well beyond the Standard alone. Training is its first output.

ADM Cares and Concern Worldwide US Expand Kenya Partnership to Reach 17,500 Smallholder Farmers

Now in its seventh year, the ADM-supported LEAF program has helped participating farmers grow into independent, self-sustaining agricultural businesses.

(BUSINESS WIRE)--ADM, through ADM Cares, its corporate social investment program, is expanding its longstanding partnership with Concern Worldwide US to help smallholder farmers in Kenya’s Tana River County build more productive, climate-resilient and self-sufficient farms. Now in its fourth phase, the Lifesaving Education and Assistance to Farmers (LEAF) program is reaching 17,500 farmers and is expected to indirectly benefit more than 100,000 people.

Building on a partnership that began in 2019, ADM and Concern have helped farmers adopt nutrition-sensitive and climate-smart agricultural practices through a combination of technical training, improved access to inputs and stronger market connections, all with a clear goal: helping farmers stand on their own. Many participating farmers have successfully transitioned from program assistance to independently sustaining and growing their agricultural businesses. To date, farmers supported through the program have collectively produced more than 2,000 metric tons of crops and have shown greater resilience than the county average to recurring droughts, flooding and pest outbreaks, while malnutrition rates in LEAF-supported communities decreased to 7.3% compared to the county average of 11.5%.

The latest phase of the program, LEAF IV, builds on that foundation by improving both the quality and quantity of crop production and strengthening farmers’ links to commercial and export markets. LEAF IV has also expanded the program’s reach, adding 2,000 farmers since the beginning of the year, and is promoting sustainable, private sector-led agricultural development models.

“Farmers are at the heart of everything we do at ADM, and resilient farming communities are essential to resilient food systems,” said Erdal Kurban, President, Africa & Middle East, ADM. “What makes LEAF special is its focus on independence. Seven years in, we’re seeing farmers who once relied on program support now running agricultural businesses of their own. Through ADM Cares, we’re proud to stand alongside Concern in helping more farmers in Tana River County reach that point.”

Since January 2026, LEAF IV has:

  • Trained 2,000 new farmers in climate-smart farming techniques, soil and water conservation, pest management and value chain development
  • Provided certified seeds to more than 1,000 farmers to support more diverse crop production
  • Delivered irrigation equipment to more than 450 farmers across approximately 330 acres of farmland
  • Trained more than 50 agricultural extension officers to strengthen local farming support networks
  • Established or strengthened 18 fruit tree nurseries to promote agricultural diversification and agroforestry
  • Introduced beekeeping through the establishment of 14 apiaries, giving farmers an additional source of income through direct sales.

LEAF IV is also improving community nutrition. Since January, community health promoters supported by the program have screened more than 5,100 children for malnutrition and provided nutrition education and health guidance to families across the program’s three project areas in Tana River County.

“Concern has really assisted many poor resourced households in my village to put food on the table, access income and knowledge from production to market access. I am a living testimony,” said Cecelia Achieng from Manyatta Village in Bura.

“The progress achieved through LEAF demonstrates the power of long-term partnerships and community-led development,” said Katie Waller, Director of Strategic Partnerships, Concern Worldwide US. “With ADM’s sustained support, we are helping farmers access the knowledge, resources and opportunities they need to improve productivity, strengthen resilience and create lasting change.”

Boomi Acquires Elementary Data to Bring Trusted, Governed Data to the AI Era

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. & TEL AVIV, Israel -

Acquisition adds widely adopted data observability and reliability capabilities to the Boomi Enterprise Platform, giving enterprises the data quality and governance required to operationalize AI

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Boomi, the data activation company for AI, today announced it has acquired Elementary Data, a provider of the widely adopted data observability solution that powers every workflow and AI agent with reliable data. Following Lunar.dev, Elementary is Boomi’s latest acquisition, strengthening the Boomi Enterprise Platform with the observability, quality, governance, and discovery capabilities enterprises need to deliver trusted data for AI.

Key Takeaways

What Boomi acquired. Elementary provides unified observability, quality, governance, and discovery. Founded in 2022, Elementary began as an open-source project — now adopted by 1,500+ data teams, with 1.1M + monthly downloads, and a ~4,000-member community. In 2024, it launched Elementary Cloud which added enterprise-grade capabilities on that open-source foundation.

Why this acquisition matters. AI is only as trustworthy as the data behind it. As enterprises hand decisions and actions to AI agents, unreliable data can quietly break the business. Elementary addresses that risk at the root—empowering data teams to detect, triage, and resolve data issues before they reach dashboards, models, devices, and AI agents, thereby closing the data-reliability gap that stalls enterprise AI in production.

How Elementary augments the Boomi Enterprise Platform. Elementary provides agent-driven pipeline, data, and context monitoring; column-level lineage, a data catalog, health scores, an MCP server that exposes data context to AI tools and agents, and AI agents that automate data testing, incident triage, governance, and performance optimization across apps, devices, and data. Elementary complements the Boomi Enterprise Platform's Active Data Foundation, which continuously moves, grounds and governs data, delivering it with context to the applications, devices, and agents that need it. Unlike traditional data platforms focused on data at rest, the Active Data Foundation puts data in motion, ensuring trusted, contextualized data is available wherever it's needed.

Why data reliability is the new AI bottleneck

For many years, data reliability was treated as back-office hygiene, something data teams handled quietly so dashboards didn’t break.

AI has ended that era. As enterprises hand real decisions and actions to AI agents, the reliability of the underlying data becomes the single point of failure for the whole system: an agent that acts on stale, wrong, or ungoverned data doesn’t just produce a bad chart — it takes a bad action, at scale, before anyone notices. Elementary closes that gap at the root, and brings it natively into the platform enterprises use to activate data for AI.

As enterprises scale AI and agentic workflows, data exists everywhere, flowing dynamically across pipelines in motion as well as sitting at rest in warehouses. Ensuring that this continuous flow of data is reliable has become the difference between AI that can be trusted in production and AI that introduces risk. The trust gap is already measurable: in a Forrester Consulting study commissioned by Boomi (July 2026), 86% of leaders said their organizations had moved beyond AI agent pilots, but only 34% said they trust the actions their agentic systems take, and organizations that deployed agents before they were ready reported an average of $2.1 million in added cost. Elementary addresses the root of that gap — the data itself — by empowering data teams to detect, triage, and resolve data issues before they reach dashboards, models, devices, and AI agents.

“AI is only as trustworthy as the data behind it,” said Steve Lucas, Chairman and CEO of Boomi. “With Elementary, adopted by more than 1,500 data teams, with a ~4,000-member community, and downloaded over a million times a month, we’re adding the observability, quality, and governance layer that ensures the data activating our customers’ AI and agents is reliable, explainable, and enterprise-ready.”

Trusted data for the AI era

Elementary began as an open-source project in 2022 and has since been adopted by 1,500+ data teams, with 1.1M + monthly downloads, and a ~4,000-member community. Its code-first design made data observability a natural part of the modern data workflow, while Elementary Cloud added the enterprise-grade capabilities teams need to scale. With the acquisition, Boomi customers will gain access to capabilities including:

Agent-driven pipeline monitoring that autonomously detects freshness, volume, and quality anomalies before they reach downstream assets.

Column-level lineage across ingestion, transformation, semantic layers, BI, and AI.

Governance and discovery with a shared catalog, ownership, tags, and health scores.

An MCP server that exposes data context and health to AI tools and agents.

AI agents that automate test creation, incident triage, governance, and performance optimization.

“We started Elementary on a simple conviction: data teams deserved the same reliability tooling that software engineering teams have relied on for years. AI made that conviction urgent,” said Maayan Salom, CEO and Co-Founder of Elementary. “When agents act on your data at machine speed, trust in that data stops being a nice-to-have and becomes the foundation the whole enterprise stands on. Joining Boomi, with 30,000+ customers and 800+ partners, lets us make trusted data the default for the AI era, not the exception. We're just getting started.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is data observability?

Data observability is the continuous monitoring of data and the pipelines that produce it — tracking freshness, volume, schema changes, lineage, and quality — so teams catch and resolve issues before they reach dashboards, models, devices, or AI agents. Elementary unifies observability, quality, governance, and discovery.

Q: What's the difference between data observability and data quality?

Data quality measures whether a specific dataset is fit for use (accurate, complete, consistent). Data observability monitors, in real time and end to end, whether the systems and pipelines producing that data can be trusted to deliver it correctly. They're complementary: quality sets the standards, observability provides the continuous early-warning system. Elementary unifies both, plus governance and discovery, in one solution.

Q: What does "data readiness for AI" (AI-ready data) mean?

AI-ready data is data reliable, accessible, contextual, and governed enough for a model or agent to use safely in a real workflow — not just data that is "clean" or "in the cloud." AI-ready data carries business context (metadata, lineage, definitions) and is continuously monitored for freshness and drift. Elementary helps teams make data AI-ready by making pipelines observable, tested, and governed, while still allowing for a human-in-the-loop.

Q: Why do AI agents need reliable data, and what happens without it?

Agents act on data — querying systems and devices, triggering workflows, making decisions. Unreliable data produces wrong actions, hallucinations, and costly errors that are hard to trace. This is exactly why Boomi acquired Elementary: AI is only as trustworthy as the data behind it.

Q: How is data observability different from data governance?

Governance defines the policies, ownership, and access rules for data; observability continuously verifies that data and pipelines actually behave as expected. Elementary brings observability, quality, governance, and discovery together so policy and monitoring reinforce each other.

Q: What signals does data observability monitor?

Typically freshness (is it up to date?), volume (did the expected amount arrive?), schema (did the structure change?), lineage (how does it flow and what does it affect?), and quality/distribution (are values in expected ranges?). Elementary monitors these and flags anomalies before they hit downstream assets.

Q: What is column-level data lineage and why does it matter?

Column-level lineage traces how each field is produced from source through transformations to BI and AI, showing what feeds it and what it impacts. It's essential for debugging, impact analysis, governance, and trusting the data AI acts on. Elementary provides this important type of data lineage across the stack.

Q: How do AI agents get safe, in-context access to enterprise data?

Agents need governed access plus business context (definitions, lineage, ownership). An MCP (Model Context Protocol) server exposes that data context and health to AI tools and agents in a standard way — Elementary provides this type of governed access, complementing Boomi's governed connectivity.

Q: How does this acquisition fit Boomi's strategy, and how does it relate to Rivery and Lunar.dev?

Together these acquisitions build a data-to-AI stack: data integration (Rivery), governed AI connectivity and gateway (Lunar.dev), and now trusted, observable data (Elementary). Boomi is assembling the layers enterprises need to run AI on data they can trust.

Q: Is this consolidation in the data observability market? What does it signal?

This acquisition is yet more evidence that data reliability is becoming core AI infrastructure rather than remaining a standalone IT niche. Observability now joins integration, governance, and connectivity in a single platform as enterprises operationalize AI.

Q: What happens to the open-source project and its community?

There are no immediate changes planned for the open-source project, including the repository, releases, or how the community uses it. Boomi intends to continue supporting the project and its community as a responsible steward.

First and Only Ulcerative Colitis Treat-to-Target Trial Shows Treating to Disease Clearance vs. Symptomatic Remission with ENTYVIO® (vedolizumab) Prolongs Time to First Disease-Related Complication

OSAKA, Japan & CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Monday, 19. October 2026

More than half of ENTYVIO patients who met their assigned treatment target reached disease clearance (composite of corticosteroid-free symptomatic, endoscopic and histologic remission) at Week 16
VERDICT is the first trial to provide macroscopic and microscopic evidence of intestinal tissue repair associated with disease clearance in largely bio-naïve patients treated with an advanced therapy

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Takeda (TSE:4502/NYSE:TAK) announced new data from VERDICT (NCT04259138), showing that treating adults with intravenous ENTYVIO® (vedolizumab) to achieve corticosteroid-free (CSF) disease clearance versus CSF symptomatic remission alone, resulted in a significantly longer time to first ulcerative colitis (UC)-related complication (hazard ratio 0.33 [95% confidence interval 0.17-0.67]; P=0.0014), reducing UC complication risk by nearly 70 percent. VERDICT, a Phase 4 ENTYVIO clinical trial, provides the first prospective, randomized evidence that disease clearance is an achievable and clinically relevant target in the treatment of moderate to severe ulcerative colitis.1 Results were presented during late-breaker and poster sessions at United European Gastroenterology (UEG) Week 2026 and published in the United European Gastroenterology Journal.

“There has been increasing conversation about whether achieving deeper levels of remission – addressing both visible and microscopic inflammation – ameliorates the burden of ulcerative colitis in the long-term,” said Vipul Jairath MBChB, DPhil, FRCP, FRCPC, Professor of Medicine at Western University, Alimentiv chief medical officer and lead study author. “VERDICT suggests that implementation of a treat-to-target strategy can change the disease course. It also expands the body of evidence for treating with ENTYVIO, with the goal of achieving deeper and durable disease control within 16 weeks.”

“For people living with UC, symptom relief does not always tell the full story of what is happening beneath the surface. Achieving deep healing and disease control without corticosteroids is an important goal of treatment. The VERDICT data further support the strength of gut-focused ENTYVIO in achieving outcomes such as disease clearance – within 16 weeks of treatment initiation – while also adding new molecular and cellular evidence suggesting restoration of gut function in bio-naïve patients,” said Vijay Yajnik, Vice President, Global Medical Affairs, GI & Inflammation at Takeda. “VERDICT reflects our commitment to generating evidence that aims to answer some of the most complex questions in ulcerative colitis treatment strategies and standards of care.”

VERDICT randomized adults with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis to three increasingly stringent CSF treatment targets (Group 1: symptomatic remission; Group 2: symptomatic + endoscopic remission; and Group 3: symptomatic + endoscopic + histologic remission, or disease clearance) to assess whether deeper levels of remission were associated with longer time to UC-related complications. Treatment was escalated based on assigned targets using ENTYVIO-based algorithms, which may have included an increase in dose frequency. The study’s primary outcome compared time to first UC-related complication (hospitalization, colectomy, use of rescue therapy, treatment-related, and other UC-related complications) between groups 3 and 1 up to 80 weeks after target achievement. Among the achieved-target population, key findings include:

After treatment with ENTYVIO, nearly 60% (400/672) of randomized patients achieved their assigned CSF target by Week 48 (Group 1: 137 [74.1%]; Group 2: 125 [56.3%]; Group 3: 138 [52.1%])

The primary endpoint was met with the disease-clearance group (Group 3) experiencing a longer time to first UC-related complication than the symptomatic-remission group (HR 0.33; 95% CI, 0.17–0.67; P=0.0014)

Treating to stringent composite targets (disease clearance) with ENTYVIO reduced UC complication risk by ~70%, up to 80 weeks after target achievement

Among patients achieving the CSF symptomatic + endoscopic remission target (Group 2), more than 80% also achieved histologic remission at Week 48

Time to UC-related complication was similar between patients in groups 2 and 3 (1.10 [0.45-2.69] P=0.8023)

51 UC-related complications occurred, with use of rescue therapy being the most frequent

Adverse event rates were similar across groups and unaffected by treatment escalation and more frequent ENTYVIO dosing to achieve more stringent targets

The safety profile observed throughout 96 weeks was generally consistent with previously reported data, with no new safety signals identified. The most common adverse events (≥5%) were ulcerative colitis, anaemia, haematochezia, COVID-19 infection, influenza, nasopharyngitis and arthralgia.1

Additional analyses from VERDICT also presented at UEG Week explored molecular changes associated with early disease clearance.2,3 Proteomic and transcriptomic analyses identified distinct molecular patterns among bio-naïve patients who achieved disease clearance by Week 16, including changes in pathways related to inflammation, mucosal homeostasis and tissue repair. These exploratory findings may contribute to a better understanding of the biology associated with disease clearance and warrant further investigation.

The impact of ulcerative colitis can extend well beyond day-to-day symptoms.4 Over time, up to 30 percent of patients may experience complications, including painful flares, hospitalization and surgery, that can disrupt their lives and take an emotional and financial toll.5,6 This underscores the importance of addressing not only symptoms but also facilitating gut healing with the goal of changing the course of disease to minimize long-term impact and improve outcomes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is "disease clearance" in ulcerative colitis?
Disease clearance is a treatment target that combines three levels of remission: corticosteroid-free (CSF) symptomatic remission (no symptoms without steroids), endoscopic remission (visible healing of the gut lining), and histologic remission (healing at the microscopic level).1,7,8 It is a deeper standard than symptom relief alone and proposed by the International Organisation for the Study of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IOIBD) as having potential to reduce the risk of disease recurrence and progression in the long term. VERDICT is the first randomized trial in UC to include this stringent treatment target in a prespecified hypothesis.

What is the VERDICT trial and what are the results?
The VERDICT trial (NCT04259138) is a Phase 4 ENTYVIO randomized trial, the first and only prospective trial in UC to assess the optimal treatment target to prolong time to ulcerative colitis (UC)-related complications.1 The study found that treating adults with moderate to severe ulcerative colitis to a corticosteroid-free (CSF) disease clearance target with ENTYVIO lengthened the time to first UC-related complication, compared with treating to CSF symptomatic remission alone. VERDICT is the first randomized trial in UC to include this stringent treatment target in a prespecified hypothesis. Additionally, among those who achieved their treatment target, disease clearance was reached by more than half (57%) of ENTYVIO-treated patients at Week 16.

What is a "treat-to-target" approach?
Treat-to-target means actively monitoring a patient's disease and adjusting treatment on a set schedule until a specific, pre-defined clinical target is reached, rather than evaluating the clinical status of the patient out of the framework of an assigned target.1 In VERDICT, patients were assessed for target achievement at Weeks 16 and 32 and had treatment adjusted according to a pre-established algorithm if assigned treatment target was not achieved. The achieved-target population for VERDICT included patients who reached their assigned targets at Weeks 16, 32 or 48.

Was the ENTYVIO safety profile in the VERDICT trial consistent with previous data?
The safety profile observed through 96 weeks in VERDICT was generally consistent with previously reported ENTYVIO data, with no new safety signals identified.1

About ENTYVIO® (vedolizumab)
ENTYVIO, a biologic therapy, is the only gut-focused treatment available for ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease in adults. It specifically binds to the α4β7 integrin and blocks its interaction with MAdCAM-1, which is mainly expressed on the gut endothelial cells.9 ENTYVIO is approved for IV and subcutaneous (SC) administration in adults with moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease who have had an inadequate response with, lost response to, or were intolerant to either conventional therapy or a tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα) antagonist (approvals vary by market).10 Marketing authorization has been granted in more than 80 countries for ENTYVIO IV and in more than 50 countries for ENTYVIO SC. Globally, ENTYVIO IV and SC have more than 2.3 million patient years of exposure to date.11

About the VERDICT Trial
VERDICT (NCT04259138) is a Phase 4 randomized treat-to-target trial conducted by Alimentiv, in collaboration with Takeda.1 VERDICT included 672 adults with active moderate to severe UC (Mayo rectal bleeding subscore [RBS]≥1; Mayo endoscopic score [MES]≥2), with most being bio-naïve and/or having severe disease (as measured by MES). Patients were randomly divided into three groups, each assigned an increasingly stringent treatment target: corticosteroid-free (CSF) symptomatic remission (Group 1); CSF symptomatic plus endoscopic remission (Group 2); and CSF symptomatic, endoscopic and histologic remission (Group 3). Treatment was escalated to assigned targets using ENTYVIO-based algorithms, which may have included an increase in dose frequency. Achievement of treatment targets was assessed at Weeks 16, 32 and 48. The study’s primary outcome compared time to first UC-related complication (hospitalization, colectomy, use of rescue therapy, treatment-related, and other UC-related complications) up to 80 weeks after target achievement between groups 3 and 1.
