During a visit on Monday morning to the Carabinieri GHQ in Rome, a delegation from the Security Support Department at the Security Support Directorate General at the General Secretariat of the Office of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior reviewed the tasks and duties of the Italian police (Carabinieri).
The delegation is headed by Colonel Khaled Saeed Al Shamesi, Head of Security Support Department. The visit aims to enhance the prospects for cooperation, the exchange of training and academic expertise, and to review the tasks and duties of a number of police and security departments.
Major General Enzo Bernardini, Chief of the Carabinieri Headquarters, Second Department, in charge of international relations and tasks; Joseph Battaglia, International Cooperation Office Director; and a number of Italian officers welcomed the delegation of the Security Support Department.
During the visit, the delegation watched two documentary films; the first one showcasing the Italian gendarmerie and military police history, followed by discussions on a number of police- related topics and means to enhance mutual cooperation between the two parties –most particularly in the field of operations and training applications. The two parties also discussed the importance of cooperation in policing at the international level. The second documentary tackled the achievements and international participations of the Security Support Department at the Security Support Directorate General at the General Secretariat of the Office of His Highness Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Interior.
The delegation’s visit additionally included a tour of the sections and facilities of the Carabinieri. The delegation was also acquainted with the work mechanisms according to the latest technologies.
Major General Enzo Bernardini praised the distinguished relationship between the police and security authorities in Italy and Abu Dhabi Police GHQ. He noted that the exchange of professional expertise on the tactical levels is one of the most important ways to foster those relations and sharing the best practices that enhances the safety and security in response to various crimes. He also highlighted the importance of strengthening mutual cooperation to ensure continuous success and to achieve the desired development in the area of police work for both countries.
Towards the end of the visit, Colonel Khaled Al Shamesi and Major General Enzo Bernardini exchanged commemorative shields and took commemorative photos.
The Security Support Department’s delegation included Major Mohammed Mubarak Al Masa’bi, Security Support Patrols Branch Manager; Warrant Officer Ismail Ali Al Hosani; the Italian training expert Giancarlo Candiano; and Legal Consultant Abu Bakr Abdullah Abdul Wahhab.
It is worth mentioning that the Security Support Department’s delegation will continue its field visits to a number of police and security authorities in the Italian capital Rome until May 8th.
