Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, May 14th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
The Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Abu Dhabi, represented by the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department in Al Ain, organized an event for the laborers and support workers to mark the International Workers’ Day, which occurs every year on May 1.
Colonel Khalifa Matar Balquba' Al Humairi, Director of the Residency and Foreigners Affairs Department in Al Ain, said: “The celebration of International Workers’ Day reflects the teachings of true Islam, which sets the framework for establishing relationships with workers and for protecting their rights. This framework serves as a source for the strategy and values of the Ministry of Interior which include positive interactions and social responsibility. It also reflects the department’s support and care for the workers and their keenness to foster social communication and cooperation in line with the interest of the government to maintain workers’ rights.”
He continued by saying that workers represent one of the main pillars that help achieve the development that the UAE is currently witnessing. “The celebration represents a gesture of gratitude to workers in recognition of their dedicated efforts,” he said. “Such initiatives strengthen the relationships between the workers at the department; they foster a sense of belonging within the department and strengthen bonds; and additionally encourage them to be more productive and to further devote themselves to their work.”
The event dedicated to cleaners and day laborers at the department provided explanations regarding the rights and duties of workers in both Urdu and English. Colonel Al Humairi distributed certificates of appreciation and symbolic gifts for the workers, in addition to awarding two Umrah trips to two workers who have served for a long period, and to others who have recently converted to Islam.
