4th INTERPA Conference to Commence on Monday in Abu Dhabi

The fourth annual INTERPA Conference (International Association of Police Academies) organized by the Police College, representing the Ministry of Interior is scheduled to commence on Monday in Abu Dhabi. The three-day conference, held under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, will take place at the Intercontinental Abu Dhabi Hotel, under the theme “Policing Training”.

A distinguished cohort of academics and specialized researchers will be taking part in the conference, alongside members of the International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA). The conference will be hosted for the first time in the UAE and aims to exchange expertise, share the best practices, and examine the best international standards in the field of scientific and academic research, police education and training across security and police academies.

Colonel Saif Al Ketbi, Police College Director, said that training police officers at all levels and ranks is one of the most important contemporary issues of concern on the International arena. He also noted that members of INTERPA had agreed on tackling these themes during the fourth annual conference.

Colonel Al Ketbi stressed the importance of training in boosting police staff members’ potential; and increasing their mental, behavioral and cognitive capabilities and skills commensurate with the different situations and circumstances they may face. Adding further, he explained that the conference aims to exchange ideas at an international level, to review and assess the practical aspect of police training  and the role of the overall assessment process in supporting police work; review the training process in different countries and the best practices related to developing evaluation, analysis and measurement mechanisms in police academies, and expanding boundaries to advance constructive ideas on developed and efficient training mechanisms.

He said: “The conference is the perfect opportunity to avail of the different experts’ experiences in the field of police training; examine the most important future training methodologies for officers, and participate in discussions.” He also noted that the committees will include more than 20 speakers from different countries. Moreover, Colonel Al Ketbi indicated that the conference will discuss a number of themes, notably the Community Police; management of police events; development of police training through international cooperation; police training across different cultures; occupational training in the field of policing and air security; and combating local and transnational crimes.

In conclusion, Colonel Al Ketbi emphasized that the conference is an opportunity to communicate and reinforce relations with the International Association of Police Academies (INTERPA); and to get access to a comprehensive database of the best practices to combat cyber and organized crimes and interact directly with an elite group of leaders and top global experts in police work.
