The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Interior, represented by the Higher Organizing Committee of the 2016 International Conference for Security and National Resilience (ISNR 2016) will launch the first edition of the “ISNR Innovative Ideas Award” for the year 2016. Participants may submit an innovation or invention in the field of maintaining security, safety, lives, and property in a creative way that contributes to developing safety and security methods. The award comes as part of the events organized on the sidelines of the exhibition which will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from March 15-17.
Major General Dr. Ahmed Nasser Al Raisi, Deputy Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee of the exhibition, said: “The award comes in line with the National Innovation Strategy launched by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and implemented as per the directives of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior. It also confirms the keenness of HH to encourage scientific innovation and develop research capacities in the country’s institutions among students, universities, institutes, colleges, and high schools.” He pointed out that it constitutes a new addition to the excellence and innovation awards system launched by the Ministry of Interior. The system promotes new concepts for life and work, and encourages creativity and innovation in various work facilities and police sectors in the country.
“This award is the first of its kind in the area of scientific innovation in security and safety at the nationwide level. It is awarded to students in universities, institutes, colleges, and high schools to recognize a role model and motivate students to submit innovations and inventions that serve the community’s security and safety,” he added.
Al Raisi also explained that the award aims to boost the spirit of creativity, innovation and excellence among students; strengthen the spirit of competition; leverage the potential of the future generation; motivate talents to achieve scientific and technical innovation that serves the community’s security and safety; encourage and honor talented and distinguished students in the scientific and technical areas and intellectual production; implement the best creative ideas in the field of safety and security for the concerned authorities; and reflect the bright and civilized image of the UAE through students’ innovation and excellence.
For his part, Brigadier Saeed Saif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Award Committee, noted that all students in educational institutions (male and female) are eligible to apply for the award. The award is divided into two categories: the first is the higher education category and the second is the secondary education category, in accordance with the following conditions:
Mandatory special forms and models for the award are available at the Ministry of Interior’s website. The applicant must be enrolled in one of the educational institutions in the country during the period of the award’s implementation. Applicants can apply for the award individually or collectively; those applying individually must be UAE nationals, while groups must not exceed 4 students, of which one must be a UAE national. Nomination files must also be prepared by the candidate and may not be assisted by a consulting party.
Award applications may be submitted starting on January 20th. The deadline for submissions is February 29th.
