Major General Al Nuaimi Stresses Commitment of Police to Foster Crime Prevention

24,000 Reports for Federal Community Police in 2014 for Community Service

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, March 22nd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

The Ministry of Interior, represented by the Federal Community Police Department, announced that the number of community-based reports registered within the UAE for the year 2014 amounted to 24,034 various field reports issued by Community Police patrols. These reports, alongside the service of the police, security authorities and external partners, contributed to resolving a myriad of social issues. Throughout 2014, 1,975 awareness programs and visits were implemented, alongside 606 educational lectures delivered to the public.

Colonel Mubarak Bin Muhairom, Head of Federal Community Police Department briefed Major General Dr. Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior regarding the 2014 Federal Community Police Achievements Report. Major General Al Nuaimi stressed on the importance of redoubling the efforts to support achievements that serve society. This falls within the framework of the directives from the police leadership and embodies the strategy of the MoI in fostering communication and partnership with various segments of society.

Major General Al Nuaimi also reiterated the commitment of the police in enhancing crime prevention efforts. He noted that the partnership between police members and the community further supports all concepts of security while also nourishing the sense of security which promotes shared responsibility and feelings of belonging to the UAE.

“The UAE has come to be regarded as the leader in the region for adopting modern concepts of police work, and our Community Police are an exemplary aspect of this,” he said. “We have achieved great results regardless of our limited years’ of experience. Over the years, we have yielded significant results and we are now working with many other countries who wish to utilize our experience as we exchange information and expertise.”

He also explained that the Community Police rely on various communicative means, using tools that are both direct and indirect, and have achieved outstanding success in realizing social solidarity.  He also praised the achievements of the Community Police members and partners in civil society institutions, namely the sons and daughters of the UAE.

Colonel Mubarak Bin Muhairom, Head of Federal Community Police Department said: “In 2014, the Community Police managed to contact 2 million individuals of Asian nationality in the UAE by activating the ‘Communicate’ program and various sport championships were organized in collaboration with external partners, such as the UAE Exchange.” He also noted that modern technologies and communication methods were utilized, such as SMS and stadium big screens. The Community Police have also distributed publications in various languages to introduce various Asian communities within the UAE to the duties of the Community Police and to educate them regarding security issues. The palm oasis in Al Ain City was refurnished to make it a touristic destination for all people where they can enjoy a complete sense of security. He also noted that the Community Police joined efforts with the Al Ain City Municipality, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, and other governmental entities in transforming the oasis into a key destination and touristic landmark for Al Ain visitors.

Community Police have also held meetings with partners in order to look into the negative effects of internet cafes and the risks that they may pose. These meetings resulted in a number of recommendations that partners have applied after coordinating with the competent authorities to agree on the recommendations and endorse them.

Community Police was honored  last year with the Best Community Policing Practices Award by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) in the USA. The UAE outranked 50 participant countries for the same category with the ‘Safer Schools Partnership’ project.

Colonel Bin Muhairom also said that this year’s plan of the Federal Community Police Department includes many initiatives and activities that foster communication with the public and aim to spread the policing culture amongst various community segments. This plan is realized via adopting a work system that focuses on solving social issues by cooperating with partners and society members.

Awareness programs and campaigns that target parents and children will also be intensified and will focus on the benefits of the Internet. The programs will also help to spread security awareness regarding various social and security issues, and in strengthening preventive procedures that aim to protect property. New awareness programs will be adopted and will foster awareness by utilizing leisure time during vacations and highlighting the dangers of drugs.
