ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, March 11th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
Delegations from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) traffic departments reviewed the accomplishments of the Traffic and Patrols Directorate at Abu Dhabi Police and learned of the developments made in the operations of traffic safety. The operational processes have been adopted by the Directorate in accordance with the best international levels and practices and constitute an integral part of its long term plan to achieve zero fatalities on the roads by 2030.
On Tuesday, Brigadier Eng. Hussein Ahmed Al Harithi, Director of Traffic and Patrols Directorate, met the delegations of the GCC traffic directorates in his office. The meeting was attended by Brigadier Khamis Ishaq Mohammed, Deputy Director of the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate; and Brigadier Khalifa Mohammad Al Khaili, Head of Traffic and Road Safety Engineering Department alongside the Directorate’s department and section managers. The delegations are participating in the events of the 31st Unified GCC Traffic Week together with the Traffic and Patrols Directorate and promoting the events that are held under the slogan “Your Choice Determines Your Destiny”.
Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi welcomed the kind participation of the delegations and emphasized the important step of working together in order to benefit from the experiences and expertise acquired in the field of traffic. By doing so, they will be able to achieve the mutual objective of traffic safety throughout every GCC country.
He also noted that the slogan of this year’s event is a message for all members of society to pay attention to and to adhere to the procedures of traffic safety. “The slogan represents the importance of making responsible decisions and of abiding by the traffic laws that are put in place for your safety,” Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi said. He then urged the community to “abide by the designated driving speeds, not to use the phone while driving, to wear the seatbelt that is there for your protection, and to cross the road only at the designated areas.”
He also said: “By conducting exchange visits amongst the traffic directorates in the GCC, we foster the joint efforts and sharing of experiences and expertise in traffic systems, technologies of traffic engineering and control, and awareness programs. These acquired experiences help to limit traffic accidents and the subsequent deaths or serious injuries in every country within the GCC; because the causes of the accidents tend to be similar in nature and the best practices of prevention are relevant to each of us.”
Brigadier Eng. Al Harithi introduced the delegations to the organizational structure of the Directorate and to the vision for zero fatalities on the roads by 2030. The delegation also visited a number of traffic-related institutions in various governmental entities.
