Ministries and Authorities Praise MoI’s Government Communication Efforts and Practices

Delegations representing a number of ministries and government authorities visited the Security Media Department’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi and praised the efforts and practices of the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in the field of government communication. The visit falls in line with the internal benchmarking workshops, designed to review the best practices adopted at the MoI, in addition to its experience in the field of government and social communication. The visiting delegations included representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Community Development; in addition to the Federal Demographic Structure Council; and the Emirates Identity Authority.

Colonel Saeed Al Khajah, Deputy Director Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior briefed the visiting delegations on the strategic objectives of government communication at the Security Media Department, which  include maintaining public confidence; promoting security and safety; ensuring readiness to provide decision-makers with the necessary support; fostering effective communication skills, and building competencies.

Colonel Al Khajah also discussed the Security Media Department's vision in the field of government communication (2014-2016), which aims at making the UAE one of the most secure and safe countries in the world. He also explained that the others goals sought by the Security Media Department is striving efficiently and effectively to enhance the quality of life for the UAE community by providing security, traffic and reform services; ensuring the safety of lives and property.

Colonel Al Khajah also referred to the efforts exerted by the Security Media Department in strengthening the concepts of communication with all society segments by providing high quality services according to the best international standards, via the various communication channels (audio-visual and print media) and social media. He also explained that the government communication practices adopted at the Security Media Department have earned it the Mohammed bin Rashid Government Excellence Award for the Best Practice in the area of government communication.

For his part, Major Fawaz Ali Abdullah, Chief of the Government Communication and Media Support Section at the Security Media Department, stressed that the MoI strategy aims at employing an effective and comprehensive balanced set of traditional communication tools and channels, as well as modern and interactive tools to deliver the ministry’s media messages. He also noted that the department endeavors diligently to improve and develop the capabilities and skills of the government communication team within the framework of the strategic plan (2014-2016) by organizing introductory workshops for the different units at the MoI to boost their awareness about the valuable role of government communication.

Captain Ahmed Nassib Al Mansouri, Chief of the Strategic Planning Section at the Security Media Department, stressed the importance of reviewing similar experiences and practices, carrying out benchmarking comparisons and field studies, and examining the best practices applied at the department. Captain Al Mansouri also briefed the visiting delegations on the strategic initiatives established by the Security Media Department, which are set to be implemented in accordance with the Ministry of Interior’s Government Communication Strategy (2014-2016).

For his part, Captain Ibrahim Al Bateh, Chief of the Media Documentation Section, briefed the visiting delegations on the duties of the Media Documentation Section and its efforts to achieve an accurate database and information and statistics center. He also noted that the daily monitoring of electronic media aims at following up on the different posts and articles published about the MoI in the different media websites and social media. The section is also in charge of preparing comprehensive monthly reports and of organizing and supervising media monitors' work rotations, in addition to continuously updating the systems.

Captain Al Bateh also noted that the media reports broadcasted or posted via the various mass media are utilized to provide facts and statistics for the sake of conducting developmental studies, developing the e-archiving system, and supporting preparation of news reports for media campaigns.

Abdullah Shahin, Media Expert and Press Branch Manager at Security Media Department, emphasized the department's commitment to implementing the communication strategy with local, Arab, and international media in accordance with carefully designed plan and clear and definite standards in order to achieve the security media objectives. The department also strives to organize regular meetings with strategic partners in the various media, and to achieve ongoing communication with international media in order to exchange expertise and review the latest studies and practices in the field of government communication.
