LONDON. - Thursday, June 5th 2014 [ME NewsWire]
(BUSINESS WIRE) Smartmatic has once again demonstrated its extensive experience in election automation and electronic voting. This time, the world’s leading voting technology and service provider shared its knowledge at the election observation mission and the Election Knowledge Fair, organised by the Association of World Election Bodies (A-WEB) in Seoul, South Korea from 30 May – 4 June.
The events gathered electoral commissioners, as well as representatives from parliamentary and civic organisations, from over 32 countries, including China, Iraq and Russia. South Korea held local elections on 4 June.
The A-WEB was originally formed to protect the integrity of elections through observation missions, but it’s evolved into a forum for exchanging election information and good practices.
South Korea’s President, Park Geun-Hye, commenting on the importance of the A-WEB initiative, stated: “Despite our differences in electoral systems and cultures, we have a shared objective of representing the hearts and wishes of the general public. To achieve this objective, I believe it is very important for us to have exchanges and learn from each other’s systems and cultures.”
The Smartmatic team in South Korea showcased the technologies that have helped make the company the world leader in election automation. They also shared their experiences of working with electoral commissions in five continents to improve their elections.
After a brief introduction of the company, Smartmatic presented two of its success stories, the Philippines and Venezuela. From 2007 to 2010, the Philippines transitioned from a totally manual system to the most advanced system in Asia achieving legitimate results in record time, together with a positive impact on economy. Since 2004 Venezuela has implemented over 13 national elections to great success with what is now the only 100% automated and fully-verifiable voting system in the world.
