Telefónica Germany is Currently Deploying OT’s MultiSIM for O2 in Germany

COLOMBES, France - Wednesday, May 14th 2014 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE) Oberthur Technologies, a world leader in digital security solutions for the mobility space and Telefónica Germany, one of the leading MNOs in Germany, today announced massive deliveries of OT’s MultiSIM for O2 in Germany.

OT developed the MultiSIM form factor and adjusted it according to Telefónica Germany requirements. From now on, O2 customers do not need to worry anymore, as their new SIM card will fit into any mobile phone. If they want to change from one form factor to another, they do not need to ask their operator for a new SIM card, but can just deplug their MultiSIM.

Since the introduction of the 4FF Form Factor, there has been a clearly communicated demand for an all-in-one form factor solution from Telefónica Germany. Development in OT started immediately and when the first prototypes were available, Telefónica Germany and OT worked closely together in order to implement any required modifications to reach customer satisfaction.

Furthermore, the introduction of OT’s MultiSIM by Telefónica Germany is in line with the issuing of SIM-Plugs instead of ID-sized card bodies which allows the recycling of plastics and marks another step toward environmental sustainability.

“At OT, we are pleased to have closely worked with Telefónica Germany to meet their requirements for a best-in-class product. A sustainable approach is important for our company as we are dedicated to offering eco-friendly products to our customers” said Michael Utermann, Europe Deputy Telecom General Manager at OT. “MultiSIM is the perfect answer for operators who want to simplify their subscribers’ life, while reducing their ecologic footprint and rationalizing their logistics”.

Maik Friedrich, Manager Forward Logistics & SIM-Card Management, Devices & Accessories, Telefónica Germany, stated: "The MultiSIM allows us to simplify our logistics and reduce our inventory. The development of a 3-in-1-solution for the SIM and the decision to distribute it in all channels simplify the life of our customers and meet the strategy of Telefónica Germany as well as the strategy of Telefónica Group. It is also the foundation for further innovations to come.”
