Ahead of 2018 UAE National finals
Dubai, United Arab Emirates.-Wednesday, March 21st 2018 [ AETOS Wire ]
Grundfos, the multinational manufacturer of pumps and water application systems, announced that it will be sponsoring Team Bolt, one of the teams participating in the Formula Ethara Challenge 2018.
The annual competition is an extension of the F1 in Schools program and aims at inspiring students of the future through Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Phase one of this year’s edition of the competition saw the participation of 25 UAE Primary Schools, 32 Individual Teams of 4 competing against one another ahead of 2018 UAE National finals race day in May 2018, which will take place at Yas Marina circuit, the only Grand Prix circuit to offer F1 in schools STEM education.
As a part of the contest, which promotes team building and leadership skills, teams are challenged to develop their own businesses and in doing so, design, build and race scale model cars at the Circuit. Children are encouraged to think about physics, aerodynamics, design, manufacturing, branding, graphics, sponsorship, and marketing skills.
In line with its philosophy of continuous improvement, innovation and sustainability, Grundfos joins the group of sponsors of the Jess Arabian Ranches Primary’s team participating in the event, a team of 4, called Team Bolt. The students, aged between 10-11 years, chosen by their school to be their representative through a selection process, will collaborate in the design and making of the car, in the annual competition designed to stimulate an appreciation for engineering, as well as promote a number of business and management skills. The sponsorship aims to provide the team with the much needed financial support to push on with their plans and get a shot at glory. It will also nurture their motivation to achieve their goals and experience the fun of competition. As a part of the initiative, students are required to be creative as they build the air compressed car; manufacture and design the team uniforms and pit overalls; acquire merchandise to sell; and create an attractive pit display on race day that would allow them to stand out. Team Bolt plans to pursue financing their project with in-school fundraisers; create their own website; create their own branding and marketing; and manufacture a miniature gas powered balsa wood Formula 1 car to take part in the race.
The judging panel already shortlisted the teams based on their car’s speed, design, overall brand and students’ presentation skills. Four teams are now ready and will be working hard over the next few months to be ready for the 2018 UAE National Finals at Yas Marina Circuit.
