ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Wednesday, July 15th 2015 [ME NewsWire]
The Directorate General of Civil Defense at the Ministry of Interior has called upon the public to adopt preventive behavior and to abstain from any wrongdoing during the Eid holidays. This can be accomplished by adhering to the necessary requirements of prevention and the conditions of safety.
Major General Jassem Muhammad Al Marzouqui, Civil Defense General Commander-in-Chief, congratulated the higher leadership as well as the citizens, residents and visitors of the UAE on the occasion of Eid El Fitr. He stressed upon the keenness of the UAE Civil Defense departments to fulfill their duties by ensuring that everyone is safe.
“As always, the Civil Defense Stations are available and alert during the Eid holiday, and ready to respond to any call. Our field teams will ascertain the safety of procedures and activities that take place near public entertainment areas, shopping centers, and gathering places that are popular for families to come together,” said Maj. Gen. Al Marzouqui. He then invited the public to abide by the standards and safety conditions at home, and especially in kitchens due to the increasing use of flammable substances. He urged for vigilance in the home, and to avoid unsafe behavior that may lead to an outbreak of fire and the subsequent repercussions that will dim the holiday cheer.
He urged for families to ensure that the safety requirements related to the stove burners are available, inspect all electricity and gas networks in the home, hire specialized technicians to fix any available defect, keep children away from the kitchen while using fire or in the presence of hot liquids, and abstain from grilling inside homes or apartments to avoid fires or suffocation from gases and toxic smokes.
He also called upon parents not to leave their children unattended in parks, play places, beaches or high places. He urged for them to keep fire sources, burners, and electric generators away from tent sites; to control the smoking inside tents; and to keep lamps away from the tent fabric.
Major General Al Marzouqui, wishing safety for everyone, assured that Civil Defense across the UAE are on standby and are ready to receive reports around-the-clock. For emergencies, call 999 or 997.
