South African cricket chiefs are set to implement a proposal forcing franchise teams to include at least one black African player in their starting line-ups during the domestic season.
According to Sport24, this follows a proposal that came out of the sport's Transformation Indaba held in Johannesburg last month.
The initial proposal was for teams to teams to field at least two black African players in their starting teams, but that is likely to be reduced to one as squads for the new season, which starts on Friday, have already been finalized, the report said.
Cricket South Africa will hold a board meeting on Friday where the rule could be implemented, the report said.
The domestic season starts today with a One-Day Cup match between the Titans and Cobras in Centurion, while the Knights host the Warriors on Saturday and the Highveld Lions square off against the Dolphins on Sunday, the report added.
The new rule could be enforced from the second round of One-Day Cup fixtures scheduled for October 16, the report further said.
CSA CEO Haroon Lorgat recently gave his assurance that the rule would not extend to the national team, according to the report.
