Al Rashidi Council Calls to Implement Popular Traditional Concepts with Future Generations

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates - Thursday, September 3rd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

During the Ministry of Interior’s Council entitled ‘Cultural and National Pluralism, and its Impact on the National Identity’,  participants emphasized the need to hold public councils to help parents and grandparents instill the principles and concepts of the UAE’s customs, traditions, and legacies with the future generations. The council, which was hosted by Salem Mohamed Saeed Al Rashidi in his house in the Abu Dhabi Al Nahda Region, stressed the important role of these popular councils in effectively preserving the entity of the family through the revival of their ancestors’ heritage.

Participants of the council called for the need to strengthen the identity of the UAE, and pointed to the influential role that the media sector plays in shaping public opinion and in promoting the positive values and principles of the nation. They called for the need to utilize the various channels of communication to consolidate national identity and to promote the components and symbols of the  legacy of the UAE. The council, moderated by media personality Dr. Abdul Rahman Al Shumairi, Editor-in-Chief and General Manager of Al Watan Newspaper, comes within the series of councils organized by the Law Respect Culture Bureau in cooperation with the Security Media Department at the General Secretariat of the Office of H.H Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior.

The speakers at the Al Rashidi Council addressed a number of topics regarding the pros and cons of multiculturalism and of its impact on national identity; while valuing the keenness of the leadership to strengthen the pillars of national identity through its care for the tributaries and mainstays of the nation.

The participants unanimously agreed that the Arabic language is an indispensable element in national identity, as it comprises a significant portion of the nation’s and its people’s individuality. Discussions also included the challenges that are faced in the era of the Internet and social media; and of the extent to which the newer generations are connected to such technology.

Participants expressed their admiration for the Ministry of Interior’s efforts to find effective and innovative community-based solutions in order to maintain the UAE society; and they praised the role of the Law Respect Culture Bureau for building the bridges of trust with the public and for communicating with them.
