He also highlighted the need to raise awareness of families to help their children choose good companionship, stay away from bad companions, and acquaint them with the useful means to fill their leisure time,  and prevent them from falling prey to the drug affliction.

The Council addressed the need to increase awareness about the serious damages of drug abuse of various types. Major Mohammed Al Mansouri, Awareness Branch Manager at the Anti-narcotics Section at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of Abu Dhabi Police, noted that that drug cultivation, production and peddling are penalized by laws and regulations in different countries around the world, especially in the United Arab Emirates. He highlighted the efforts exerted to educate  the youth and various categories of society and raise their awareness about the damages caused by this nefarious scourge, in addition to the legal and police means of deterrence used to prevent drug peddling and trafficking in society. He pointed out that the effects of drug abuse are numerous, some of which might affect the health of an individual in addition to the economic consequences that affect the person, the family, and the society as a whole.

For their part, officials and rehabilitation experts from the National Rehabilitation Center said that the most efficient methods of prevention against addiction are monitoring children and keeping dialogue with them to discuss issues of concern to them; in addition to learning their views on the future and raising their awareness about the various negative phenomena that may undermine their future.
