U.S. FDA approves first treatment option for generalized pustular psoriasis flares in adults

-Spesolimab is a monoclonal antibody that inhibits interleukin-36 (IL-36) signaling and is the first treatment specifically approved for the treatment of generalized pustular psoriasis flares

-After one week of treatment, more than half of patients treated with SPEVIGO® (spesolimab) intravenous injection showed no visible pustules in the EFFISAYIL® 1 trial

-The approval of SPEVIGO® in the U.S. reinforces the successful acceleration of our late-stage portfolio to bring innovative medicines to patients faster

(BUSINESS WIRE)--The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is the first regulatory authority to approve spesolimab as a treatment option for generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) flares in adults, Boehringer Ingelheim announced today. Spesolimab, marketed in the U.S. as SPEVIGO®, is a novel, selective antibody that blocks the activation of the interleukin-36 receptor (IL-36R), a signaling pathway within the immune system shown to be involved in the pathogenesis of GPP.

This press release features multimedia. View the full release here: https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20220901005863/en/

“GPP flares can greatly impact a patient’s life and lead to serious, life-threatening complications,” said Mark Lebwohl, M.D., lead investigator and publication author, and Dean for Clinical Therapeutics, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, Kimberly and Eric J. Waldman Department of Dermatology, New York. “The approval of spesolimab is a turning point for dermatologists and clinicians. We now have an FDA-approved treatment that may help make a difference for our patients who, until now, have not had any approved options to help manage GPP flares.”

“This important approval reflects our successful efforts to accelerate our research with the aim to bring innovative treatments faster to the people most in need,” said Carinne Brouillon, Member of the Board of Managing Directors, responsible for Human Pharma, Boehringer Ingelheim. “We recognize how devastating this rare skin disease can be for patients, their families and caregivers. GPP can be life-threatening and until today there have been no specific approved therapies for treating the devastating GPP flares. It makes me proud that with the approval of SPEVIGO® we can now offer the first U.S. approved treatment option for those in need.”

The FDA’s approval of spesolimab is based on results from the pivotal EFFISAYIL® 1 Phase II clinical trial.1 In the 12-week trial, patients experiencing a GPP flare were treated with spesolimab or placebo. Most patients at the outset of the trial had a high, or very high, density of pustules, and impaired quality of life. After one week, 54% of patients treated with spesolimab showed no visible pustules compared to placebo (6%).1

In addition to the U.S. approval, spesolimab is currently under review by several other regulatory authorities. To date, spesolimab has received Breakthrough Therapy Designation in the U.S., China and Taiwan, Priority Review in the U.S. and China, Orphan Drug Designation in the U.S., Korea, Switzerland and Australia, Rare Disease Designation and fast track in Taiwan, for the treatment of GPP flares. The European Medicines Agency validated the marketing authorization application for spesolimab in GPP in October 2021 and the submission is currently under evaluation.

Distinct from plaque psoriasis, GPP is a rare and potentially life-threatening neutrophilic skin disease, characterized by episodes of widespread eruptions of painful, sterile pustules. Given that it is so rare, recognizing the symptoms can be challenging and consequently lead to delays in diagnosis.

Mobility Fintech Moove Joins Forces With Uber UK to Bring Thousands of Electric Vehicles to London

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Moove, the world’s first mobility fintech and Uber’s largest vehicle supply partner in EMEA, is announcing its launch in London as part of its global expansion.

Moove, an African-born startup with a growing global customer base of mobility entrepreneurs, has launched in Europe with a 100% EV rent-to-buy model that provides access to brand new, zero-emissions vehicles for a flat weekly fee. Moove aims to be the largest EV partner on Uber’s platform in London with plans to scale to up to 10,000 vehicles by the end of 2025, creating sustainable earnings opportunities and contributing to the city’s net zero carbon emissions goals.

London is the global leader for Uber’s electrification efforts with over 6,000 EVs on the platform – the most of any Uber city. Moove’s London launch will enable Uber to progress towards its goal of becoming an all-electric platform in the capital by 2025.

Transforming mobility gig economies through vehicle finance

Founded by British-born Nigerian entrepreneurs Ladi Delano and Jide Odunsi, Moove launched in Lagos, Nigeria in 2020 to democratise access to vehicle ownership. Having now scaled to nine markets across sub-Saharan Africa and India, Moove is leading the charge in the ‘mobility fintech sector’, a white space it created and which is solving the challenge of limited access to vehicle financing for millions of gig workers across ride-hailing, logistics, and instant delivery sectors, of which there are around 4.5 million in the UK alone.

Moove’s alternative credit scoring technology provides access to vehicle financing to gig worker customers who may have previously been excluded from financial services. Over the past two years, Moove has enabled sustainable job creation and a path to asset ownership with its customers having completed over 7 million trips in Moove-financed vehicles.

In London, Moove’s innovative approach to vehicle financing is designed to empower its customers with access to brand new, zero-emission vehicles with an easy sign-up process as well as no credit checks, upfront costs, or deposit needed. Other services include regular maintenance, MOT, vehicle insurance, health insurance and a dedicated customer success team, a product offering not matched by any other company partnered with Uber's Clean Air Plan.

In addition, Moove customers driving with Uber can reduce their weekly payments by using funds raised through Uber’s Clean Air Plan to help them meet the cost of switching to an EV. Uber’s Clean Air Plan has raised over £145 million, equating to approximately £3,000 per driver. Moove estimates that the 10,000 EVs it plans to finance by 2025 in London will contribute a reduction of around 63,000 megatonnes of carbon dioxide emissions per year.

Ladi Delano, co-founder and co-CEO at Moove, said: “We are proud to have built a business in Africa to now be able to scale our model here in Europe, which is something that no other African fintech company has done before. This also marks a milestone of firsts for us; as we are excited to be launching with our first 100% EV fleet. We are thrilled to be expanding our partnership with Uber to drive our commitments towards the electrification of mobility.”

Andrew Brem, general manager at Uber UK, said: “Our aim at Uber is to become a 100% electric platform in London by 2025 and we understand that drivers need access to financing if they want to make the transition to an electric vehicle. Moove’s model will help more Uber drivers switch to pure electric faster, to reduce their running costs and help clean up London’s air. With demand from riders higher than ever, our partnership with Moove will benefit drivers and riders alike.”

Driving the electrification of mobility

Moove aims to solve many of the pain points facing its customers when switching to an electric car over a petrol or diesel-powered vehicle. Moove has launched the first end-to-end charge experience and complete EV charging network app specifically for ride-hailing drivers called Moove Charge™. The app enables Moove customers to locate, control, and pay for charging across one of the largest roaming networks in London, covering over 6,600 slow, fast and rapid charge points. Altogether, this provides a better and easier experience for drivers as well as riders as it enables more electric cars to be on the road and reduced wait times for Uber’s growing customer base.

About Moove

Moove is an African-born global start-up and the world’s first mobility fintech, providing revenue-based vehicle financing and financial services to mobility entrepreneurs. By embedding its alternative credit scoring technology onto ride-hailing, e-logistics and instant delivery platforms, Moove uses proprietary performance and revenue analytics to underwrite loans to drivers that have previously been excluded from financial services.

Conference of the People, Powered by PUMA Puts Gen Z Voices Front and Centre

 LONDON - Thursday, 01. September 2022

71% of young people aged 18-25 don’t believe their voices are being heard when it comes to environmental sustainability

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- New research from PUMA, which surveyed 6,000 young people aged 18-25 from the UK, US, France, Germany, Italy and Spain has revealed that 94% of them care about the environment. At the same time, however, almost one in five aren’t motivated to help improve sustainability because the focus is always on older generations.

The sports company is addressing this focus with Conference of the People, powered by PUMA. The first of its kind event will centre the voices of Gen Z as the fashion industry comes together to discuss solutions towards more sustainable processes and practises. Live from London, streamed to the world on September 6th.

When asked what they would like to see brands doing more of when it comes to environment and sustainability, taking quicker action came out on top (52%). Making more commitments to change what they’re doing came next (49%), followed by communicating their goals better (40%) and being transparent with customers (34%). Two fifths of them are interested in connecting with brands to actively make the change themselves. It once again became clear that young people want brands to listen to their thoughts and opinions on the climate emergency as well. A quarter (26%) of those surveyed do not feel that there is a platform for their generation’s opinions regarding environmental sustainability. The same amount also said they want brands to create platforms to hear from younger generations.

For its one-day event, happening this month, PUMA has compiled panels that will feature some of the most prominent voices in sustainable fashion along with some famous faces that everyone will recognise, as well as next generation thinkers. Topics for discussion include tackling waste, using more sustainable materials, impacting climate change, and finding ways for the industry to collaborate to achieve results sooner.

Eco-anxiety is also on the rise amongst young people. Over a third (36%) of them admitted to feeling very anxious about global warming and the climate emergency. The number is highest in Italy (66%). The sportswear brand plans to tackle this head on. Actress, model, and activist Cara Delevingne will feature in a conversation on how young people can manage the anxieties they’re facing when it comes to the climate crisis.

Conference of the People, powered by PUMA is a first of its kind event. The aim is to create an environment for PUMA’s industry peers, activists, NGOs, experts, ambassadors, and consumers to come together and discuss solutions for some of the fashion industry’s most pressing sustainability challenges. All whilst amplifying the of voices of young people across the world.

Anne-Laure Descours, Chief Sourcing Officer at PUMA says, “With 71% of young people believing that their voices aren’t heard when it comes to environmental sustainability, it’s clear there’s a problem. Gen Z will have to live with climate decisions that are being made today, so we recognise that it’s important that they’re heard in these conversations. My hope is that through Conference of the People, we can give a platform to their voices and create a safe environment for them to collaborate with us, as an industry, on new and better ways of operating.”

To learn more about Conference of the People and to register interest in physical or virtual attendance, users can visit PUMACOP.com and follow @PUMA and [insert local IG if applicable] on social media.

Conference of the People will start on September 6 at 12pm BST (1pm CET, 7 am ET) and the livestream of the event is free to access for all.

US Majors Take Top Spot While Low-Cost Carriers Rise up the Cirium Global Airline Rankings

LONDON - Thursday, 01. September 2022

American Airlines leads the US majors in taking the top four slots in Cirium’s World Airline Passenger Ranking for 2021

Ryanair retains its spot as Europe’s largest airline as low-cost carriers climb the ranking

Familiar names from Europe and Southeast Asia plunge as travel restrictions bite and long-haul markets remain weak

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- The major US carriers made a clean sweep of the top four places as aviation analytics firm Cirium revealed its World Airline Passenger Rankings for 2021.

American Airlines stays on top of the ranking again in 2021, followed by Delta Air Lines, United Airlines and Southwest Airlines, demonstrating the strength of the recovery that continues to take place in the US domestic market.

Overall, airlines in North America showed 75% growth from the low point in 2020, although still ending last year down by 40% on 2019 traffic levels, as measured in Revenue Passenger Kilometers/Miles (RPKs/RPMs).

The ranking, which is based on over 600 operators tracked in the Cirium airline database, shows that world traffic ended 2021 down by 57% against the pre-pandemic peak. In terms of passenger numbers, the total stood at 2.3 billion for the year, representing around half of the volumes from the peak in 2019.

Low-cost carriers continued to rise up the rankings across the regions. Ryanair cemented its place as Europe’s largest carrier, sitting in fifth place just below Southwest, and was the only European airline to make it into the top 10.

Europe’s major network carriers have fared less well over the past couple of years, as demand for long-haul, premium travel remained depressed. Although Air France held steady at 13th place, Lufthansa slipped down the rankings and British Airways fell out of the top 20 altogether. Virgin Atlantic also dropped more than 50 places as it too suffered from the slow return of long-haul and premium traffic.

The big three carriers in mainland China – China Southern, China Eastern and Air China – held their place toward the top of the ranking, although that could change after a renewed round of COVID-19 lockdowns in Chinese cities so far this year.

Across Asia Pacific as a whole – in stark contrast to recovery in all other world regions – airlines saw traffic fall again last year. Cathay Pacific slipped spectacularly, falling out of the top 100 ranking entirely following Hong-Kong’s pursuit of an aggressive zero-COVID strategy. It was not alone. Carriers across the region in Indonesia, Malaysia, South Korea and Thailand also continued to shrink.

In Japan, All Nippon Airways and Japan Airlines had lost nearly 85% of their traffic in 2020 and were still down by around 75% by the end of 2021. Both fell steeply down the rankings as a result.

Jeremy Bowen, Cirium CEO, said: “Pre-pandemic, Asia Pacific airlines held the single largest share of global passenger traffic, with over a third of the world total. By 2021 the region was overtaken by North America, led by the strong recovery in domestic US flying.”

Two Gulf carriers, Emirates and Qatar Airways, both retained their position within the top 10 airlines, although the gap between them narrowed. Emirates slipped four places to sit just ahead of a rising Qatar Airways, which has made a point of maintaining as much of its network as possible.

Turkish Airlines, helped by an extensive domestic market free of cross-border travel restrictions, climbed four places to 10th in the latest ranking compared with 2019.

The Cirium ranking highlights the struggle which mainline carriers have faced, especially those relying on a strong mix of business travel and long-haul flying. By 2021 their share of world passenger traffic had slipped some five percentage points to 64%. That decline was largely picked up by low-cost carriers, who raised their share to 26%.

Cirium’s World Airline Passenger Ranking 2021 is a premium analysis available in Cirium Dashboard. The report features:

The Top 200 airlines by passenger traffic

The Top 50 airline groups by passenger traffic

The Top 50 airlines by passenger volume

Passenger traffic by region and by airline type 2019-2021

Share of passenger traffic by airline region and airline type

Mary Kay Inc. Highlights Its Global Sustainable Strategy at the Sustainable Future International Conference in Prague, Czech Republic

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- We all have a responsibility to care for the environment and the world around us. Sustainability must be a concerted effort and a global commitment. In late June, the Sustainable Future International Conference, sponsored by Mary Kay Inc., took place at the historic Martinic Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Thought leaders, experts, businesses, and non-profit executives from several industries descended on the historical grounds to share, network, and educate audiences on innovative and sustainable standards to successfully implement in the fight to preserve the world’s precious resources for current and future generations.

Mary Kay Inc., a long-time advocate for sustainability, preempted the event by announcing its new sustainability strategy in 2021: Enriching Lives Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow. Enriching Lives Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow was developed with the company’s key stakeholders and is aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, making Mary Kay a key part of a global coalition to effect change for a better future.

The Sustainable Future International Conference was organized by Startup Disrupt, a global marketplace for startup companies that want to help a new generation of startup founders, engineers, developers, tech innovators, and others to succeed. The event focused on the topics of smart cities (infrastructure, development), electromobility (e-mobility, energy & renewable resources, economy & policy), sustainable business (environment, taxonomy, sustainable finance), and sustainable life (agrotech, food waste, fashion disrupt, smart farming).

Speakers with diverse backgrounds and experiences shared their wisdom at the Sustainable Future conference and represented various sectors such as startup founders, executives from large and small companies, ministries, associations, unions, chambers, investment groups, policymakers (European Commission), scientific and research institutes, universities, and non-profit.

“Mary Kay’s global sustainability strategy, Enriching Lives Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow, is anchored in the three dimensions of sustainable development—economic, environmental, and social,” said Edita Szaboova, General Manager of Mary Kay Czech Republic and Slovakia. “Because of our global footprint, we know our moral imperative is to continue Mary Kay’s legacy of doing the right thing – today, tomorrow, always. We are focused on efficient manufacturing operations by reducing our environmental impact and identifying opportunities for resource improvement. We are challenging ourselves to further entrench sustainable practices in our business through product development, design, responsible sourcing, and mitigation of plastic pollution.”

“There is no Planet B! We should always keep this motto in mind. Within the European Union, many companies focus on sustainable business practices. At the Sustainable Future International Conference, we showed the best of what we have achieved here in the Czech Republic and at the same time, we inspired best practices around the world. Mary Kay with its strong vision in sustainability is an emerging force to partner with,” said Patrik Juránek, Founder and CEO of Startup Disrupt.

The next summit hosted by Startup Disrupt will take place in the Czech Republic on September 13 at Clam-Gallas Palace in Prague. The summit’s theme is Diversity which will bring together more than 50 keynote speakers from a variety of Czech and global brands. Speakers and thought leaders will participate in discussion panels on a wide array of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) topics: Biases and Microaggression; Employment of People with Disabilities; Inclusive Design and Innovation, and Women’s Empowerment, just to name a few. Mary Kay Inc. Global Head of Sustainability and Social Impact, Virginie Naigeon-Malek will speak at the summit on the topic of women’s empowerment and gender-responsive procurement as a powerful strategy for inclusive sustainable growth.

“Globally, 1 in 3 businesses are owned by women. Yet, on average, women-owned businesses globally win less than 1% of all procurement spending by large corporations and governments,” said Virginie Naigeon-Malek. “These two stats are two sides of the same coin: the shocking reality on one slide and the tremendous opportunity ahead on the other. Effective procurement policies and practices can be used as a powerful strategy to support women entrepreneurs in our effort to build back from the economic impacts of the pandemic, and re-think business practices with a DEI mindset – to shift towards inclusive growth. This massive gap in representation brings the opportunity to advance action to support women’s businesses across the globe - a unique opportunity to not only build back better but, most importantly, to build back equal.”
