(BUSINESS WIRE)-- IDEMIA, the world leader in Augmented Identity, announced today the extension of the partnership started in 2010 with SIX Payment Services, Switzerland’s leading card processor. SIX Payment Services releases a new chip specification on behalf of the Swiss debit card issuers every four years, followed by the evaluation of two suppliers. IDEMIA was selected both in 2010 to develop and supply EMVI’12 chips from 2012 to 2016, and in 2014 to develop and supply EMVI’16 chips from 2016 to 2019. Gemalto’s Biometric Authentication Technology Revolutionizes Automated Border Control in Colombia

Iris recognition at Bogota International Airport facilitates secure border crossing in seconds

AMSTERDAM-Thursday, May 3rd 2018 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Gemalto (Euronext NL0000400653 GTO), the world leader in digital security and INCOMELEC SAS, a Colombian partner, are transforming the immigration and border crossing in Colombia through biometric iris verification implemented by Migración Colombia, the country’s border control agency. This innovative solution was launched in February with a pilot program at Bogota’s El Dorado International Airport. The Automated Border Control (ABC), known locally as “BIOMIG”, is benefiting both citizens and border officials. Gemalto’s ABC speeds identity authentication and significantly reduces bottlenecks in the immigration process while maintaining strong security control for each traveler.

Gemalto ABC Iris solution secures and speeds immigration
A growing majority of airport arrivals in Bogota – up to 60% - are Colombian citizens re-entering the country. This often results in long immigration queues, congested waiting areas and travel weary citizens. “BIOMIG” mitigates these challenges while complying with Colombia’s stringent border control security requirements.

How does it work?
The solution integrates a highly intuitive iris recognition terminal that allows swift long range iris capture from 35 to 45 centimeters away. This eliminates physical contact with the terminal and improves comfort and ease of use. To use the service, Colombian citizens aged 12 and older only need to visit one of 30 BIOMIG enrollment stations at the airport as they exit the country. In less than one minute, their unique iris scan is securely registered with Colombia’s Border Management System (BMS). When re-entering the country, previously enrolled citizens simply enter their national ID number on a touchscreen integrated with an automated door barrier by INCOMELEC, SAS. After a quick glance at the iris reader terminal, identity is validated via a secure digital process and the automatic doors swing open.

Gemalto has supported Migración Colombia with state of the art solutions for secure document authentication, biometric solutions and software integration for their border operations

"The challenge with border control solutions is to minimize and simplify immigration procedures while improving ease, speed and convenience for end users - without compromising security. This is exactly what the ABC Iris solution achieves,” said Francesc Ortodo, Sales Director for Government Programs Latin America at Gemalto. “Colombian citizens can now benefit from strong biometric security within a trusted environment.”

FAA and EASA Approve AerSafeTM to Comply with Fuel Tank Flammability Reduction Rule for Airbus 321 Aircraft

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Wednesday, May 2nd 2018 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has issued a Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) to AerSale® for installation of its AerSafe system on Airbus 321 aircraft (ST04010NY) in compliance with the Fuel Tank Flammability Reduction (FTFR) rule. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) has also approved AerSafe on Airbus 321 aircraft (10065226) as a Flammability Reduction System (FRS).

This new STC is in addition to AerSale’s STCs for the Boeing 767 series (ST03599NY), approved by the FAA in February 2018, as well as the Boeing 737 CL series (ST03589NY) and the Boeing 737 NG series (ST02980NY), both approved in 2016.

“Obtaining approval from both the FAA and EASA shows AerSafe should be a key consideration for complying with the FTFR rule,” said Iso Nezaj, Chief Technical Officer at AerSale. “With AerSafe’s substantial cost savings and additional maintenance-friendly benefits, nitrogen inerting systems simply cannot compare. AerSafe is available in less than six weeks, installs in two days, has no mechanical parts to fail, and once installed, is maintenance-free. Airlines and operators faced with retrofitting a single aircraft or an entire fleet will realize significant benefits."

Tested and developed to exact tolerances to fill the cavity of the Airbus 321 center fuel tanks, AerSafe limits the amount of available oxygen that can ignite fuel vapors and prevents sparks from igniting an explosion. AerSafe comes as a complete prefabricated kit that can be installed at any hangar around the world. After initial installation, the system requires no maintenance or spare parts. A limited number of AerSafe kits are currently available for immediate installation. For larger orders, the lead time for ordering AerSafe is currently 60 days versus the one-year lead time for the nitrogen inerting system.

The FAA enacted the FTFR rule after the crash of TWA flight 800 off the coast of New York. Federal investigations revealed that the accident was the result of an explosion caused by a spark igniting fumes in the center fuel tank of the Boeing 747. The FTFR rule requires fuel tank ignition sources and flammability exposure to be reduced in aircraft most at risk. The FAA gave two options: a flammability reduction means such as nitrogen inerting, or an ignition mitigation means such as AerSafe. These systems must be installed on all passenger aircraft that have high flammability fuel tanks and fly within or into the United States.

Dr Amal Al Qubaisi: Terrorism is an Instrument Used by Some Countries and Regimes to Achieve Their Foreign Policy Objectives

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates-Wednesday, May 2nd 2018 [ AETOS Wire ]

The viability of implementing several parliamentary proposals to support international efforts to combat terrorism and eliminate its sources of funding is currently being studied, according to Dr Amal Al Qubaisi, Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council (UAE Parliament) and President of the High-level Advisory Group on Countering Terrorism and Violent Extremism (HLAG) of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

She added that HLAG aims to host a global parliamentary summit in an effort to step up the fight against terrorism and extremism, and raise levels of cooperation in this field among all parliaments of the world, with the cooperation of IPU and concerned bodies within the United Nations.

The announcement came on the sidelines of the second meeting of HLAG that commenced in Abu Dhabi today and concludes on May 3. The meeting drew the participation of presidents and members of parliament and IPU Executive Committee members spanning 15 countries – all key stakeholders of HLAG.

The agenda of the group’s second meeting included a review of the results of the joint program undertaken between the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The meeting also discussed HLAG’s achievements in fulfilling its wider objectives, namely strengthening national parliamentary capacities and exchanging best practices among parliaments in the global fight against terrorism, and the establishment of a global parliamentary network for national legislations combating terrorism and extremism.

In her address at the meeting, Dr Qubaisi said: "Terrorism has become an instrument used by some countries and regimes to achieve their foreign policy objectives. There is also the complex issue of financing and sponsoring terrorism directly and indirectly. This makes it difficult to hunt down agents of terror and bring them to book. We all concur that that we need to employ concerted and sustained international cooperation to fight what has become the most dangerous threat to life and peace in the 21st century.”

For his part, Martin Chungong, Secretary-General of the IPU, said: “Terrorism knows no boundaries, therefore combating it requires global dialogue. So far, all international action has been reactive rather than preventive. High-level parliamentary intervention is far more effective in curbing this enemy than extreme measures.”

20th Anniversary of UltraDNS Celebrated by Neustar

20 years on, UltraDNS still provides brands with seamless and secure online experiences

LONDON-Wednesday, May 2nd 2018 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Neustar®, Inc., a trusted, neutral provider of real-time information services, today celebrated the 20th anniversary of UltraDNS®, its signature Authoritative DNS Service. Created in 1998 by Rodney Joffe, senior vice president and Neustar fellow, UltraDNS was the first DNS service to leverage IP Anycast technology, enabling it to be faster, safer and more resilient to distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks and other online threats.

Today, UltraDNS is trusted by brands and organisations across the globe to keep their digital presence online and secure. Over the years UltraDNS has played a significant role in defending against many would-be crippling DDoS attacks, cementing its place as a critical technology to protect a brand’s infrastructure. "These types of attacks have been a persistent threat over the last few decades and highlighted the importance of DNS to the internet," said Rodney Joffe.

"From Trinoo and Stacheldraht in the late 90s, to Mirai and its assorted iterations that have plagued brands in the last few years, attackers continue to probe and breach defences. The internet has become fundamental to every organisation’s day to day operations, and without DNS, there is no internet and no digital presence," noted Joffe.

In addition to withstanding otherwise debilitating DDoS attacks, UltraDNS has a long history of pioneering innovations and a number of industry firsts, such as being:

    The first DNS service to leverage proprietary code, which unlike BIND-based services, is not open-sourced;
    The first DNS service protected by a built-in DDoS mitigation service - now known as Neustar SiteProtect NG®;
The first DNS service to offer an entirely segregated and securely sealed DNS environment using the award winning, DNS Shield™.

One of Neustar’s customers is Yorkshire Building Society Group (YBS) in the U.K. Andrew Winkless, infrastructure manager at YBS commented, “If our customers are unable to access our online services and our emails are down, our productivity comes to a halt. It’s vital we have a DNS provider that we can rely on to help us prevent that from happening. Neustar UltraDNS ticks all of the right boxes, keeping the group online and our customers happy.”

"UltraDNS has evolved and improved as part of our commitment to providing our customers – and our customers’ customers – with a flawless digital experience," continued Joffe. "As attackers continue to find new and creative ways to launch their assaults, we'll continue to innovate to stay ahead of the game, continuously keeping our customer's DNS secure."

As part of its commitment to maintaining the premier status of UltraDNS as a world-class DNS service, Neustar has already added additional DNS nodes to its SiteProtect NG network in North America, Europe and Asia in 2018, to provide greater scalability in the future. With more nodes slated for 2018 in South America, Africa, Australia and the Indian subcontinent, Neustar continues to actively expand the footprint of UltraDNS across the globe to provide faster and safer online experiences.

FLIR Introduces Saros, FLIR’s Next-Generation Outdoor Perimeter Security Camera Line for Commercial Businesses

FLIR Saros Combines Multiple Technologies into a Single Unit to Enable Thermal Adoption in New Commercial Sectors

WILSONVILLE, Ore. -Wednesday, May 2nd 2018 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- FLIR Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: FLIR) today announced the Saros™ line of security cameras, its next-generation outdoor security product line that combines multiple traditional perimeter protection technologies into a unified solution. This approach is designed to deliver accurate, actionable alerts and verified alarm data.

The FLIR Saros camera line enables commercial businesses to implement state-of-the-art outdoor intrusion detection in a cost-effective manner. Traditional perimeter security systems can require substantial investment, both in infrastructure and in ongoing expenses stemming from false alarms. FLIR Saros not only greatly reduces the cost of initial deployment by minimizing the amount of equipment required, but also reduces false positives with built-in advanced analytics, expanding the outdoor perimeter protection market for security alarm monitoring companies.

A single FLIR Saros unit combines numerous security technologies, including:

Multiple FLIR Lepton® thermal sensors – Provides the ability to deliver wide-area monitoring regardless of unfavorable lighting or weather conditions
High-definition optical cameras – Option of 1080p or 4K resolution to realize accurate visual identification of intruders
IR and visible LED illuminators – Ability to deter intruders with white light illumination
Advanced onboard analytics – Accurate target detection and classification, to help reduce false alarms
2-way audio and digital input/outputs – Enables real-time audio response

The FLIR Saros platform was designed and engineered with today’s cybersecurity risks in mind, with end-to-end encryption for setup, web, and video streams, and configuration lockdown after initial setup for increased tamper prevention. FLIR Saros also eliminates the need for port-forwarding, so devices are less exposed to remote security attacks.

“FLIR Saros, equipped with multiple FLIR Leptons, represents a new security paradigm for wide-area commercial locations that face the threat of loss,” said James Cannon, President and CEO of FLIR. “FLIR Saros products open new business opportunities for both central monitoring stations and security integrators looking to distinguish themselves in the industry. The Saros family is an important addition to FLIR’s security portfolio and supports our goal of innovating technologies that increase perception and awareness to support professionals in decision-making that saves lives and livelihoods.”

Initial FLIR Saros models – in both dome and multi-imager form factors – will begin shipping in North America and Europe in the third quarter of 2018 through FLIR’s established network of dealers and integrators. Farmers Edge™ Releases Comprehensive 2018 R&D Roadmap with Over 90 New Digital Agricultural Innovations Focusing on Data-Driven Decision Support

The decision agriculture pioneer develops enhancements in real-time profit measurement, crop management, and machine learning to create new opportunities for growers and agricultural professionals

WINNIPEG, Manitoba-Tuesday, May 1st 2018 [ AETOS Wire ]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Farmers Edge™, a global leader in decision agriculture, today released a comprehensive R&D roadmap outlining its product enhancement and innovation plans through to 2019. On the heels of introducing 19 new tools this year, Farmers Edge aims to release over 90 additional ground-breaking digital agronomic tools to enable data-driven decision making and support high-yield crop production. Leveraging advances in data analytics and machine learning, Farmers Edge has a dedicated and expanding digital agronomy product team responsible for extracting value from data and developing innovative tools that help growers and agricultural professionals overcome obstacles on the farm.

Since 2014, Farmers Edge has invested in digitizing their customers’ farms to automatically collect, integrate, and process data from multiple sources into one platform, including: on-farm weather stations, nearly every make and model of equipment, soil tests, daily satellite imagery, fertilizer application, and harvest data. Now processing over 50,000 fields a day and analyzing over 11 billion data records, Farmers Edge provides unbiased insights to help growers base farm management decisions on data, not marketing campaigns, traditional practices, or gut instincts.

Wade Barnes, president & CEO of Farmers Edge remarked, “the ability to gather and integrate detailed information from growers’ fields, coupled with advances in weather forecasting, rapid processing, predictive modeling, and machine learning, is changing farming from a business that often reacts to the past to one that uses data to support decisions for seasons ahead. It’s about accuracy, efficiency, productivity, and ease of use. This year, Farmers Edge is forecast to expand our data collection network to encompass over 8,500 weather stations and 25,000 telematics devices across 33 million paid product acres. That growth fuels the development of more tools to let growers experience the value of their farm data and show them how it can be used to save time, stay organized, and make more money. This isn’t just the beginning of decision agriculture, this is a digital disruption.”
