The satellite, which will be in a geostationary orbit and expand SES’s capabilities across Latin America, is scheduled for launch in Q4 2016. SES-10 will be the first-ever satellite to launch on a SpaceX flight-proven rocket booster.

SES-10 will be positioned at 67 degrees West, pursuant to an agreement with the Andean Community (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru), and will be used for the Simón Bolivar 2 satellite network. With a Ku-band payload of 55 36MHz transponder equivalents, of which 27 are incremental, the multi-mission spacecraft is the first SES satellite wholly dedicated to Latin America. It will replace the capacity currently provided by SES’s AMC-3 and AMC-4 satellites at that location, as well as bring additional capacity to Mexico, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The high-powered, tailored and flexible beams will provide direct-to-home broadcasting, enterprise and mobility services.

Toshiba Multifunction Peripherals' Outstanding Environmental Performance Achieve Excellent ECP Elite Certification

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Toshiba Tec Corporation (TOKYO:6588) announced today that all of its newly-engineered multifunction peripherals (MFPs): the e-STUDIO2500AC series, e-STUDIO5005AC series, e-STUDIO7506AC series, e-STUDIO5008A series, and e-STUDIO8508A series, have attained Toshiba’s elite certification, the Excellent ECP (Environmentally Conscious Product) which is awarded only to the products achieving the highest level of environmental performance in the industry1. This marks the first time for an entire Toshiba Tec line to achieve such an accomplishment.

Toshiba Tec has been promoting environmental initiatives under its own environmental policy: Green Product, Green Process, and Green Management. Green product is the core of its policy, and three approaches, which include the mitigation of climate change, efficient use of resources, and management of chemicals, are taken. Yamaha Motor Underscores Commitment to Africa

Participation in TICAD VI Summit: Eyes Further Growth of the Region

(BUSINESS WIRE)—Yamaha Motor (TOKYO:7272)(ISIN:JP3942800008) announced today that it has participated in the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD VI), held in Nairobi, Kenya on August 27-28, 2016.

At the Japan Fair 2016, held concurrently with TICAD VI, Yamaha Motor exhibited its Clean Water Supply System, a compact system for water purification. Because the system does not require a powerful electric supply or special coagulant chemicals, it is simple to deploy and allows for easy maintenances for local residents to operate water supply stations themselves.

Motorcycles providing practical and efficient transportation for vaccines and other items helping to improve African health and hygiene were also demonstrated at the fair, which was hosted by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry and the Japan External Trade Organization.

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Masimo (NASDAQ: MASI) announced today that in response to the Zika virus and its potential impact on the availability of blood products, Masimo is creating a special program to dramatically reduce the cost of and increase access to Masimo’s continuous hemoglobin monitoring (SpHb®) solutions, shown to help clinicians reduce blood transfusions in both low and high blood loss surgery. This special program will be available wherever the blood supply is affected by the Zika virus.

Coca-Cola is the First Fortune 500 Company to Replenish All the Water It Uses Globally

Company and its Bottling Partners Meet 2020 Water Replenishment Goal Five Years Early; Intend to Maintain Water Stewardship Performance as Business Continues to Grow

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Coca-Cola Company and its global bottling partners (the Coca-Cola system) today announced they have met their goal to replenish, or in other words balance, the equivalent amount of water used in their global sales volume back to nature and communities. Based on this achievement, Coca-Cola is the first Fortune 500 company to publicly claim achieving such an aggressive water replenishment target1.

The Coca-Cola system also announced progress against its water efficiency goal. The company and its bottling partners improved water use efficiency by 2.5 percent from 2014 to 2015, adding to a cumulative 27 percent improvement since 2004.

Based on a global water use assessment validated by LimnoTech and Deloitte, and conducted in association with The Nature Conservancy (TNC), the Coca-Cola system returned an estimated 191.9 billion liters of water to nature and communities in 2015 through community water projects, equaling the equivalent of 115 percent of the water used in Coca-Cola’s beverages last year.

The Coca-Cola system has achieved its water replenishment goals through 248 community water partnership projects in 71 countries focused on safe water access, watershed protection and water for productive use. In many cases, projects also provide access to sanitation and education, help improve local livelihoods, assist communities with adapting to climate change, improve water quality, enhance biodiversity, engage on policy and build awareness on water issues. The program aspects mentioned in the preceding sentence do not contribute to Coca-Cola’s replenish volume.

Replenish performance is independently reviewed by LimnoTech and verified by Deloitte. That work is reflected in a 1,188 page report. The methodology for calculating water replenishment benefits was created in collaboration with The Nature Conservancy and LimnoTech. It was the subject of scientific technical peer review to verify its accuracy, and uses generally accepted scientific and technical methods. Projects are reviewed annually and evaluated using this methodology.

Some replenish projects directly return water to the source we use while others are outside the watershed our plant uses but are important to help meet needs of local governments, communities and partners where there is a pressing need. Coca-Cola and its partners seek projects that have a direct benefit, can be scaled up to have greater impact by reaching more people and parts of an ecosystem, are easy to learn from and replicate in other places where the challenges are similar, and can be built to be sustainable by the community over time, continuing to replenish water. These efforts, as well as new projects, frequently address local source water vulnerabilities and balance additional sales volume as Coca-Cola’s business continues to grow.

At each of its 863 plants globally, Coca-Cola requires operations to determine the sustainability of the water supply they share with others in terms of quality, quantity, and other issues such as infrastructure to treat and distribute water. Through this process, one of the factors Coca-Cola plants must examine is whether or not their use of water and discharge of water has the potential to negatively impact the ability of other community members to access a sufficient quantity and quality of water. If so, or if there are areas where water sources may still be unsustainable in some aspect, Coca-Cola’s requirement then mandates that each plant develop and implement a Source Water Protection Plan. The plan, among other things, engages others to mutually seek solutions to promote the sustainability of the local water source. This may result in replenish projects or other opportunities. While each plant may not replenish all water to its direct source, Coca-Cola’s policy is to require that all plants work to ensure they do not negatively impact water sources and work with the community on longer term solutions.

Coca-Cola’s replenishment strategy supports the company’s overall water goal to safely return to communities and nature an amount of water equal to what is used in its beverages and their production. On the production side, the Coca-Cola system returned approximately 145.8 billion liters of water used in its manufacturing processes back to local watersheds near our bottling plants through treated wastewater in 2015.

Exhibits at Japan Fair will showcase Toshiba’s ability to provide total energy solutions that ‘Make Energy”, “Transmit and Store Energy” and realize the “Smart Use of Energy”.

Toshiba will demonstrate its ideal positioning to support growing demand for power in Africa with world-class geothermal power generation equipment and high efficiency energy transmission and distribution (T&D) technologies. The spotlight will also be on the company’s key next-generation products for Africa: smart meter systems that deliver enhanced energy network management and support for off-grid energy solutions - essential for providing stable energy in a region as diverse and challenging as Africa.

“Already, almost 60% of our sales are outside Japan,” said Takeshi Yokota, Toshiba’s Corporate Senior Vice President and Corporate Representative for Europe, the Middle East & Africa. “We are growing our business by promoting expansion in emerging markets, and see Africa as very promising. We have done business in Africa for over 50 years, and established our first office here in 1967. Since 2014, our business here has been driven by Toshiba Africa (Pty) Ltd. We are very happy to participate in TICAD Japan Fair and to introduce Toshiba’s potential to a wide audience.”

Toshiba now focuses on three business domains, energy, infrastructure and storage, all of which can support Africa’s move toward sustained growth. Most important as a driver for growth and improved wellbeing is the company’s energy business. The countries of Africa all target economic growth, and all must contend with demanding environmental conditions.

Toshiba first entered Africa’s hydroelectric and thermal power plant market in the 1970s. More recently, in 2013, the company supplied four 70-megawatt turbines and generators for Olkaria I and IV at the Olkaria Geothermal Power Plant, Kenya’s largest geothermal power complex, and they were successfully brought on line in February 2015.

Toshiba has an unrivaled record in the global geothermal power market. It delivered Japan's first geothermal steam turbines and generators in 1966, and since then has delivered 53 turbines around the world, with a total capacity of 3,400 megawatts. As the source of approximately 23% of the world's installed geothermal capacity, Toshiba is the global top supplier.

In East Africa, which can look to the vast geothermal potential of the Great Rift Valley, Toshiba is collaborating with numerous countries in the geothermal power business. In 2015, the company concluded MOUs with Ethiopian Electric Power and Tanzania Geothermal Development Company Limited, and on August 9 this year announced its most recent MOU, with Office Djiboutien de Développement de l'Energie Géothermique (ODDEG), the government organization responsible for developing Djibouti’s geothermal power capabilities.

Toshiba’s contributions in Africa also cover power transmission and distribution. In 2015, Toshiba Transmission & Distribution Systems (India) Pvt. Ltd. (TTDI), an Indian subsidiary of Toshiba, won a contract to supply Kenya Power & Lighting Company (KPLC) with approximately 4,000 transmission and distribution (T&D) transformers for the substation network that connects power plants to end-consumers in Nairobi and the surrounding region. After successfully completing this order, TTDI was awarded an additional US$34-million contract in April this year to supply approximately 8,000 more distribution transformers.

Looking to the future in Africa, Toyoaki Fujita, Business Development Executive for overseas operation in Toshiba’s Energy Systems and Solutions Company, had the following comment: “All the data points to rapid economic growth over the next 30 years boosting African energy demand 1.7 times. At Japan Fair, Toshiba will show how energy transmission and use can be enhanced by its Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) Systems, which has won the lion’s share of the global market, 35%. The system can be utilized with smart grid technologies to build efficient and effective transmission and distribution networks. The exhibition will also include H2One, Toshiba’s CO2-free off-grid energy solution system, a fuel-cell in a container, which can easily be installed in off grid areas and that uses renewable energy sources, such as solar and wind, plus water, to deliver a stable supply in areas that are isolated and lack electricity.

Mr. Fujita added, “Our rich experience allows us to support Africa’s growing demand for clean energy with our latest and eco-friendly solutions, like H2One. The MOU we have agreed in the geothermal business also include provision for training local people, to ensure sustainability over the long term. Emirati Women’s Day: A nostalgic journey for the Chairperson of EEG

Habiba Al Marashi, Chairperson of Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) and President of Arabia CSR Network, looks back at her journey which began 25 years ago .
