Oberthur Technologies and Etisalat Group Sign a New Strategic Partnership on M2M and IoT Services

COLOMBES, France - Thursday, July 23rd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oberthur Technologies (OT), a world leader in digital security solutions for the mobility space, and Etisalat Group, the UAE-based leading global Telecommunications service provider, add a new dimension to their collaboration with their strategic partnership to offer the region’s first tailored M2M and IoT services across Middle East, Asia and Africa. Relying on OT’s M-Sense solution, Etisalat affiliates will extend their Machine-to-Machine (M2M) and Internet-of-Things (IoT) service offering beyond just connectivity, enabling their Enterprise customers to fully benefit from the growing M2M and IoT market.

Following an intensive evaluation process, Etisalat has selected OT’s M-Sense solution which consists of a rich set of horizontal capabilities for both application enablement and device management. M-Sense allows the secure collection and management of various data from any M2M device over any network and their control in real time. It will enable Etisalat operators to accelerate the availability of integrated value-added vertical applications, whether they are for Smart Cities, Universities or enterprises operating in the Transport, Oil and Energy or Real Estate sectors, to name a few.

As part of this partnership, OT will deliver a comprehensive solution to Etisalat affiliates, including local support on the definition of their go-to-market strategy, marketing mix and partnerships. Etisalat operators and their local ecosystem partners will be able to leverage the platform’s ready-made components and use existing application frameworks (including sensor data visualization and reporting, business rules, off-the-shelf applications), or to easily build new ones to serve each local market requirement.

“IoT is about connecting billions of objects, but more importantly it also requires the creation of numerous IoT solutions and services that will help monetize the value associated with this connectivity. It is essential for an IoT application platform to act as an innovation accelerator for developers, while also enabling seamless integration to enterprises’ existing business applications, including Big Data and analytics,” said Arnaud de La Chapelle, RMEA President and General Manager Telecom RMEA at OT.

“With M-Sense, OT not only provides a state-of-the art technology piece that meets all of these criteria but also the required services to be successful on the IoT market including business consulting and access to local and global IoT players. Panasonic Autonomous Delivery Robots – HOSPI – Aid Hospital Operations at Changi General Hospital in Singapore

SINGAPORE - Friday, July 24th 2015 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- In line with the country’s goal of becoming a Smart Nation, Panasonic System Solutions Asia Pacific (PSSAP) and Changi General Hospital (CGH) are implementing assistive robotics technology to improve operational efficiency of a hospital. Experimental use of the Panasonic autonomous delivery robots, HOSPI, began in February 2015 and they are being implemented in phases. CGH is the first hospital outside of Japan to utilise HOSPI. As part of the hospital’s porter management system, the four HOSPI are able to deliver fragile and bulky medicine, medical specimens and patients’ case notes 24/7, easing manpower constraints.

HOSPI is equipped with security features to prevent tampering, theft and damage during delivery. The robot’s contents can only be accessed with ID cards. Automation enables HOSPI to move around using the lifts and between facilities in CGH’s Main Building and The Integrated Building on its own, delivering medicine and specimens.

Rubina Gan, Assistant General Manager, PSSAP, noted, “Singapore has often been dubbed a ‘living laboratory’ for companies to experiment and co-create solutions. Panasonic is excited to work together with Changi General Hospital to phase in our HOSPI robots for full deployment so that eventually medical caregivers’ time is freed up for dedicated patient care and treatment. CHART’s (Centre for Healthcare Assistive and Robotics Technology) opening cements how technology and solutions can play a key role in healthcare in the future.”

HOSPI is equipped with sensors and programmed with the hospital’s map data to avoid obstacles such as patients in wheelchairs and complete deliveries with minimal supervision. New hospital routes can be programmed in advance, allowing flexibility. The autonomous robot communicates and relays information on its whereabouts to the control centre, enabling its location to be monitored and recorded at all times.

Selina Seah, Assistant Chief Executive Officer, Changi General Hospital, commented, “HOSPI can help us save manpower and time in a simple and practical way especially with the challenges we are facing with an aging workforce whilst our healthcare facilities increases in size and distance. By harnessing autonomous technology like HOSPI, we can optimise our workforce and improve productivity. We welcome Panasonic as a CHART partner to work with us to innovate healthcare operations and patient care.”

Panasonic is also test-bedding the use of Reysone, an electric care bed that separates and converts into a wheelchair safely and conveniently, at CGH. This 2-in-1 care bed not only facilitates the transfer and movement of patients, but also eliminates the need for additional storage areas. The Reysone test-bed will run for six months.

By continuing to build a solid foundation for healthcare robotics, Panasonic aims to deploy HOSPI to other local hospitals in the future.

Patient Safety Movement Foundation Announces the 4th Annual Patient Safety, Science & Technology Summit

An International Call to Action to Eradicate Preventable Patient Deaths by 2020

IRVINE, Calif. - Wednesday, July 22nd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Patient Safety Movement Foundation announces the 4th annual Patient Safety, Science & Technology Summit on Jan. 22-23, 2016 at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott, in Dana Point, California.

Medical errors are the 3rd leading cause of death in the United States, which lead to more than 200,000 preventable deaths per year. The non-profit Patient Safety Movement Foundation has made a formal commitment to ZERO preventable patient deaths by the year 2020. At the annual summit, leading healthcare professionals, hospital executives, healthcare technology industry leaders, policymakers, and patient advocates will gather to discuss new patient safety challenges identified at the Foundation’s Midyear Planning Meeting and devise Actionable Patient Safety Solutions (APSS) to address them.

“After attending our Summit, participants are quick to share with us that our program is unlike any other conference they have attended,” stated Joe Kiani, Founder of the Patient Safety Movement Foundation. “Our program focuses on highlighting patient safety challenges and helping participants to immediately implement tested solutions. Participants are also asked to make a formal public commitment to zero preventable deaths by 2020 and report the lives they are saving on an annual basis. The question is no longer if zero preventable patient deaths is attainable but how quickly we can attain this goal. Several hospital systems have already reported zero deaths in areas like hospital-acquired infections. The race is on and we will need everyone involved.”

To date, healthcare professionals and hospital administrators that represent over 840 healthcare organizations have made public commitments that are currently on track to save nearly 15,000 lives in 2015. More than 38 health technology companies have provided a public pledge to share their data in the pursuit of good business practices and patient safety.

“I have been involved with this movement from the beginning,” stated Dr. Richard Carmona, 17th Surgeon General of the United States. “This is an issue that affects each and every one of us. It is taking our loved ones and costing our country approximately $1.26 trillion. Failure is not an option. The hospitals that are leading the way in patient safety are also the ones that have made safety their number one priority.”

This year the Foundation will also present three winners of the 2015 Patient Safety Movement Innovation Award. The winners will receive prizes totaling $85,000 for process or product innovations that will make significant strides toward eliminating preventable deaths in hospitals.

For more information, please visit the Patient Safety Movement Foundation website. Members of the media may request press passes through Irene Paigah, phone (858) 859-7001 or email Irene@paigah.com.

About The Patient Safety Movement Foundation

More than 200,000 people die every year in U.S. hospitals in ways that could have been prevented. The Patient Safety Movement Foundation was established through the support of the Masimo Foundation for Ethics, Innovation, and Competition in Healthcare, to reduce that number of preventable deaths to 0 by 2020 (0x2020). Improving patient safety will require a collaborative effort from all stakeholders, including patients, healthcare providers, medical technology companies, government, employers, and private payors. The Patient Safety Movement Foundation works with all stakeholders to address the problems and solutions of patient safety. The Foundation also convenes annual Patient Safety, Science and Technology summits. The next summit will be held January 22-23, 2016 in Dana Point, CA and will bring together our nation’s best minds for thought-provoking discussions and new ideas to challenge the status quo. By presenting specific, high-impact recipes to meet patient safety challenges, encouraging medical technology companies to share the data for whom their products are purchased, and asking hospitals to make commitments to implement Actionable Patient Safety Solutions, the Foundation is working toward zero preventable deaths by 2020.
