We’ve built this experience to reflect how decisions actually get made in a business.”

“There’s a growing demand for AI that does more than generate responses—enterprises want systems that can reason across complex data, explain their outputs, and drive action,” said Megha Kumar, Research Vice President, Worldwide Analytics & AI, IDC. “Qlik Answers combines structured and unstructured data with automation in a governed, explainable framework. It’s a strong example of how agentic AI can support real enterprise decision-making.”

“We’re under constant pressure to make faster, better decisions with data that’s scattered across the business,” said Yuzuru Fukuda, Corporate Executive Officer - Senior EVP, Enterprise Division CEO, Fujitsu. “The ability to ask a question and get a trusted, contextual answer—across structured reports, unstructured content, and automated workflows—is exactly the kind of capability we’ve been waiting for. It has the potential to remove a lot of friction from how decisions actually get made.”

Svante Launches World's First Commercial Gigafactory for Carbon Capture & Removal Filters

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Wednesday, 14. May 2025

This next-generation carbon capture and removal solution represents a generational leap forward for managing carbon emissions from industrial sectors such as pulp & paper, waste-to-energy, cement, steel, and energy.

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Svante Technologies Inc. (Svante), a global leader in carbon capture and removal technologies, has officially completed the commissioning of its new Centre of Excellence for Carbon Capture and Removal – Redwood manufacturing Facility (Redwood) in Burnaby, British Columbia. This milestone marks the launch of the world's first gigafactory dedicated to producing commercial-scale carbon capture and removal filters designed to trap CO2 directly from industrial emissions and the atmosphere, and with the mindset of high-volume automation and product standardization to lower the manufacturing cost.

The Redwood Facility spans 141,000 square feet and is equipped to manufacture enough solid sorbent-based filters to capture up to 10 million tonnes of CO2 annually, equivalent to the emissions of more than 27 million cars. Svante's patented structured sorbent filters, coated with metal-organic framework (MOF), represent a next-generation solution for managing industrial carbon emissions.

"Today, we are making history," said Claude Letourneau, President & CEO of Svante. "This gigafactory is a critical step forward in building the infrastructure necessary to scale up the carbon management industry and to build a marketplace for physical CO2. This first-of-a-kind manufacturing facility is a demonstration of what's possible when technology and climate ambition align to lend nature a hand in managing global CO2 emissions."

Svante is currently focusing on biogenic carbon dioxide removal (CDR) sectors like pulp and paper, ethanol production, and waste-to-energy, where carbon concentrations in post-combustion flue gas are higher, and capture costs are lower to generate CDR credits. Capturing the emissions from other industries, such as cement, steel, and fossil fuels, is an essential part of a sustainable energy transition, and the commissioning of Redwood shows that Svante is stepping up to the challenge.

Letourneau added, "We're also proud to launch this transformative manufacturing facility in Canada, which allows us to bring the supply chain to our shores and bring carbon management solutions closer to the needs of emitting industries in North America."

The facility's launch follows a US $145 million capital investment and is supported by a roster of strategic investors, including Chevron New Energies, Temasek, M&G, Canada Growth Fund, United Airlines Ventures, Samsung, GE Vernova, and more. Svante anticipates the need for additional gigafactories like Redwood in the next decade to keep pace with global carbon management market demand.

Svante’s technology is already powering several major carbon capture pilot projects, including installations at Chevron’s Kern River asset in the San Joaquin Valley in California. Additionally, its earlier work with Lafarge Holcim on Project CO2MENT continues to demonstrate effective carbon capture at Lafarge’s Richmond Cement Plant in British Columbia, Canada. In addition to serving the post-combustion or “point source” carbon capture market, Svante also manufactures filters for the leading direct air capture company, Climeworks, as part of their latest Gen 3 DAC technology, which Climeworks says cuts the cost of regenerative energy in half and doubles the CO2 capture volumetric capacity.

With its breakthrough approach and global manufacturing ambitions, Svante is setting a new benchmark for engineered carbon capture and removal solutions. This facility is solidifying investor, customer, and partner confidence in Svante's ability to deliver commercial projects and products today at scale and demonstrating that the company is strategically positioned for long-term success.

GSK to acquire efimosfermin, a phase III-ready potential best-in-class specialty medicine to treat and prevent progression of steatotic liver disease (SLD)

 CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -

Affecting up to 5% of the global population, SLD represents an area of significant unmet medical need with limited treatment options

Phase II data show potential of efimosfermin to reverse liver fibrosis, demonstrated in metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (a form of SLD)

Unique properties offer potential for efimosfermin to be a new standard-of-care

Significantly expands GSK’s hepatology pipeline aimed at addressing steatotic and viral drivers of liver disease, offering multiple development options and potential first launch in 2029

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- GSK plc (LSE/NYSE: GSK) and Boston Pharmaceuticals, a leading clinical stage biopharmaceutical company developing highly targeted therapies for patients with serious liver diseases, today announced that they have entered into an agreement under which GSK will acquire Boston Pharmaceuticals’ lead asset, efimosfermin alfa. Efimosfermin is a phase III-ready, potential best-in-class, investigational specialty medicine to treat and prevent progression of steatotic liver disease (SLD). Under the agreement, GSK will pay $1.2 billion upfront, with potential for additional success-based milestone payments totalling $800 million.

Efimosfermin is a novel, once-monthly fibroblast growth factor 21 (FGF21) analog therapeutic in clinical development for the treatment of metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), including cirrhosis, and future development in alcohol-related liver disease (ALD), both forms of SLD. Given efimosfermin’s direct antifibrotic mechanism of action and GSK’s data-driven insights from work in human genetics and disease phenotyping, it has potential to address more advanced stages of SLD and opportunity in combination with GSK’990, a siRNA therapeutic in development for other subsets of patients with SLD.

The acquisition of efimosfermin is highly aligned to GSK’s R&D focus on science related to the immune system and is further evidence of the company’s intent to build on its deep understanding of fibrosis and auto-inflammation to develop precision interventions that stop and reverse disease progression.

SLD represents an area of significant unmet medical need affecting approximately 5% of the global population with limited therapeutic options for patients.1 SLD, including MASH and ALD, is characterised by the accumulation of fat in the liver (steatosis), with associated inflammation and fibrosis. ALD affects about 26 million patients globally, and together with MASH, is the leading cause of liver transplant in the US, representing a significant burden and cost on healthcare utilisation.1,3 Substantial and disproportionate costs are associated with end-stage liver disease. Interventions that reduce moderate-to-advanced fibrosis to prevent progression of cirrhosis, liver cancer, hospitalisations and transplant could save the US healthcare system between $40 - 100 billion over the next two decades.4

Recent data from a phase II trial of efimosfermin, designed to assess the efficacy and safety of a monthly subcutaneous dose in participants with biopsy-confirmed moderate-to-advanced (F2 or F3) MASH, showed that efimosfermin rapidly and significantly reversed liver fibrosis and stopped its progression, with a manageable tolerability profile. These data suggest potentially greater fibrosis improvement compared to that seen with other therapeutic approaches and with benefit expected independent of background glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) therapy. In addition, efimosfermin could offer triglyceride reduction and improved glycaemic control, important considerations for MASH patients who frequently face cardiometabolic co-morbidities. Efimosfermin’s unique properties, including low immunogenicity and an extended half-life, also offer the potential for a monthly dosing regimen and improved patient convenience. Full data from the trial was presented at the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) Meeting in November 2024.5

Tony Wood, Chief Scientific Officer, GSK said: “The FGF21 class has shown some of the most exciting data in MASH including first-in-disease evidence of cirrhosis reversal, and efimosfermin has the potential to define a new standard-of-care with its monthly dosing and tolerability profile. Efimosfermin will significantly expand our hepatology pipeline and provide us the opportunity to develop a new potential best-in-class medicine with first launch expected in 2029. It complements GSK‘990, also in development for ALD and MASH, offering GSK options to develop both monotherapy and potential combinations to improve patient outcomes.”

Elias Zerhouni MD, Chair of the Board, Boston Pharmaceuticals, said: “I am very proud of today’s agreement with GSK, a company I know and admire, and of the outstanding work of the Boston Pharmaceuticals team led by Sophie Kornowski. Notably, this would not have been possible without the impressive, sustained and long-term strategic commitment to leading edge science and biotechnology ventures of the Bertarelli family, which led to the development of our Efimosfermin alfa as a potential best-in-class therapy in its therapeutic field. We are delighted that GSK, a global leader, recognized Efimosfermin’s potential to address a growing global public health concern and unmet medical need. Together, we look forward to Efimosfermin alfa’s ongoing journey to become a best-in-class treatment for patients with SLD.”

Sophie Kornowski Pharm D, Chief Executive Officer, Boston Pharmaceuticals said: “Today marks a pivotal moment for Boston Pharmaceuticals and Efimosfermin alfa, as we begin a new chapter with GSK, a global organization with proven expertise in liver disease, and a shared commitment to patients. Our accomplishments were made possible thanks to the dedicated Boston Pharmaceuticals team, who focused on our mission to develop Efimosfermin with a great sense of urgency. I am especially grateful to Ernesto Bertarelli for his unflinching support and the commitment of his expertise over the last few years."

The addition of efimosfermin further strengthens GSK’s hepatology pipeline of specialty medicines aimed at addressing both viral (chronic hepatitis B) and steatotic (SLD) drivers of fibrotic liver diseases.

Financial considerations

Under the terms of the agreement, GSK will acquire BP Asset IX, Inc., a subsidiary of Boston Pharmaceuticals, to access efimosfermin. GSK will pay up to $2 billion of total cash consideration, comprising an upfront payment of $1.2 billion and up to $800 million in success-based milestone payments. GSK will also be responsible for success-based milestone payments as well as tiered royalties for efimosfermin owed to Novartis Pharma AG.

GSK will account for the transaction as a business combination. This transaction is subject to customary conditions, including applicable regulatory agency clearances under the Hart-Scott-Rodino Act in the US.

For GSK, Evercore Partners International LLP is acting as exclusive financial advisor and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP as legal counsel.

For Boston Pharmaceuticals, Centerview Partners LLC is acting as exclusive financial advisor and Sullivan & Cromwell LLP as legal counsel.

About efimosfermin alfa

Efimosfermin is an investigational, once-monthly subcutaneous injection of a long-acting variant of FGF21 that is designed to regulate key metabolic pathways to decrease liver fat, ameliorate liver inflammation, and reverse liver fibrosis in patients with MASH. Efimosfermin is currently in trials for moderate to advanced fibrosis, including cirrhosis and is not available for prescription anywhere in the world.

IEEE Provides Strategic Expertise as Indonesia Adopts First Age-Appropriate Design Regulation in Asia

 PISCATAWAY, N.J. - Wednesday, 14. May 2025 AETOSWire Print

IEEE catalyzes landmark binding regulation to protect children online

(BUSINESS WIRE)--The IEEE Standards Association (IEEE SA), the global, consensus-building standards development organization of IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for humanity, announces the culmination of its collaboration with policymakers on the recently passed Indonesian Government Regulation, Governance of Electronic Systems in Child Protection.

Through insights and expertise grounded in the IEEE’s initiatives and standards on children’s data governance and age-appropriate design, IEEE SA advanced frameworks for the age-appropriate design of internet platforms and systems in Indonesia’s regulatory process. This regulation is the first of its kind in Asia and the Global South, establishing enforceable requirements for digital platforms to protect children’s privacy, safety, and well-being, as a robust, holistic approach against children’s online addiction. Indonesia’s adoption of this landmark regulation represents a significant step forward for child online protection globally.

Children now make up roughly one-third of all internet users worldwide. Greater connectivity has enabled youths to benefit from educational content, communication tools, and entertainment, but it has also exposed them to harmful content, exploitation, data privacy risks, and potential addiction problems. In recent years, governments and civil society bodies have called for age-appropriate design—designing digital products with specific protections and features for children—to address these risks. Indonesia’s new regulation addresses this important topic by requiring online service providers to prioritize the best interests of children in their platform design and practices.

This regulation builds on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and its General Comment No. 25, by requiring that any digital product or service likely to be accessed by children provide a high level of privacy by default. Most notably, profiling and the precise geolocation of children are banned, and manipulative design practices, including nudging to weaken privacy settings or requesting more personal data than necessary, are prohibited.

“This is an example of IEEE putting its mission into practice in a concrete way to support societal and children’s needs, where IEEE’s global perspective and technical knowledge combined with the Indonesian authorities’ dedication to achieve a successful outcome,” said Sophia Muirhead, IEEE Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer. “Together, we enabled the development of a practical, forward-looking legal framework and regulation that will make the digital space safer for the next generation in Indonesia and, we hope, inspire similar actions worldwide.”

Indonesia’s new regulation is closely aligned with some of the most advanced legal frameworks and regulations in the world, such as the UK’s and California’s Age-Appropriate Design Codes. They also draw on internationally recognized standards, including IEEE 2089™, the IEEE Standard for Age Appropriate Digital Services Framework (based on the 5Rights principles for children), and IEEE 2089.1™, the IEEE Standard for Online Age Verification. By embedding key provisions of these standards, the regulation ensures that online services follow globally vetted guidelines for protecting children’s data and experiences. IEEE SA recently launched a related certification program to assist industry in conforming to age verification best practices.

“By contributing our neutral, world-class technical expertise to Indonesia’s policy development efforts, we helped address a complex socio-technical challenge—how to make the online world safer for children—in a way that balances innovation and protection,” said Alpesh Shah, IEEE SA Managing Director. “This achievement required unprecedented cooperation across technical, governmental, and civil society domains, and it underlines what is possible when we all work together for our children.”

The engagement in Indonesia serves as a model for collaborative policy development. Inspired by this and other successful engagements, IEEE SA recently launched the Technology Policy Collaborative to further leverage IEEE’s neutral, trusted expertise to help governments address complex technical and societal challenges in strategic areas, such as digital governance. Through efforts like these, IEEE SA reinforces its commitment to being a valued partner in advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

Svante and SAMSUNG E&A Sign Joint Development Agreement to Offer Digitally Enabled Skid-Mounted Modular Carbon Capture Plants

Svante and SAMSUNG E&A have signed a joint development agreement to offer standardized skid-mounted modular carbon capture plants based on Svante’s novel VeloxoTherm™ solid sorbent-based carbon capture filter technology, leveraging SAMSUNG E&A’s advanced digital solutions and modularization capabilities.

Standardized modular packages will be branded and marketed globally by Svante and SAMSUNG E&A to deliver commercial carbon capture, use, and storage projects from the early project development stage through to engineering, procurement, and fabrication (EPF) across the heavy industrial and energy sectors.

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Svante Technologies Inc. (Svante) and SAMSUNG E&A announced today that they have signed a joint development agreement to jointly develop a set of standardized skid-mounted modular carbon capture plants based on Svante’s novel VeloxoTherm solid sorbent-based carbon capture filter technology, leveraging SAMSUNG E&A’s advanced digital solutions and modularization capabilities. The agreement was signed during Svante’s Grand Opening Event, which marked the commissioning of its new commercial filter manufacturing facility in Vancouver, Canada. This is the world’s first gigafactory for Svante’s filter technology, capable of producing enough filters to capture 10 million tonnes of CO2 annually.

“We are working to remove the biggest barriers to rapid deployment of industrial carbon capture by first building our world-class manufacturing facility and second by partnering with SAMSUNG E&A to reduce project execution schedule and on-site construction costs through standardized design and fabrication solutions,” said Claude Letourneau, President & CEO of Svante.

SAMSUNG E&A, a total solutions provider for the global energy industry, is one of the world’s leading engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) and project management companies in the world, with an ambition to assist in the energy transition. SAMSUNG E&A’s extensive experience in executing large capital projects based on modularization and digitalization, paired with Svante’s second-generation carbon capture and removal technology, makes this collaboration an innovative, accessible solution for clients in heavy industries and the energy sector looking for engineering-based carbon management solutions.

SAMSUNG E&A is expanding its eco-friendly business portfolio with “E&Able”, a solution that fosters a sustainable future through advanced technology. E&Able embodies SAMSUNG E&A’s commitment to resolving pressing societal challenges such as climate change, by swiftly securing groundbreaking technologies for its customers. It also represents the company’s mission to achieve global objectives, including carbon neutrality and the circular economy, faster. The company is accelerating the promotion of new businesses in the energy transition and eco-friendly sectors, focusing on three E&Able strategies: E&Able Low (low carbon), E&Able Zero (carbon-free), and E&Able Circle (environment). “The time is now for the CCUS industry value chain players to rethink how they approach projects to deliver them faster, more cost-effectively, and more efficiently. Undertaking multiple projects in parallel while using the same EPF contractor will greatly improve project performance,” said Hong Namkoong, President and CEO of SAMSUNG E&A. “Additionally, we have pioneered with our Engineering Data Platform (EDP) utilizing digital tools to enhance project execution efficiency, ultimately driving down schedule timelines and costs.”

Svante has developed a unique, environmentally responsible carbon capture and removal technology, which employs what it calls “structured adsorbent beds”, known as “filters”. The company’s filters are coated with nanoengineered solid adsorbent materials, which can capture CO2 from industrial emissions, including pulp and paper, waste-to-energy, cement, steel, fertilizer, hydrogen, and more. The company’s filter technology can also be leveraged for direct air capture (DAC), in which CO2 that has already been emitted into the atmosphere is trapped and removed from the ambient air.

“We are looking forward to partnering with SAMSUNG E&A to deliver global commercial carbon capture projects at scale,” said Claude Letourneau, Svante’s President and CEO. “SAMSUNG E&A’s 50+ years of experience in modularization across the industrial and energy sectors will be invaluable as we continue to hyperscale our operations and filter manufacturing capacity to expand our order book.”

One of the objectives of this collaboration is to offer industrial customers a one-stop shop via an integrated project delivery model for carbon capture plants. SAMSUNG E&A and Svante will develop standardized advanced front-end (FEL3) engineering package deliverables. During the project execution phase, it is anticipated that SAMSUNG E&A will be the exclusive EPF supplier of skid-mounted modules for CO2 capture plants, while Svante will supply its patented carbon capture machines (contactors)and filter beds. This collaborative approach to building large industrial facilities is shown to be effective at optimizing industrial project management and performance.

“This agreement will assist us in continuing to deliver world-class, environmentally responsible carbon capture plants that provide customers with both cost and schedule certainty, as well as convenient pre-engineered modules and automated data-driven engineering packages -- an offering we can now provide to our clients in addition to the other unique benefits our technology brings.” Letourneau adds, “An integrated project delivery model means customers no longer have to rely on the traditional bid-buy transactional relationships that they’ve been forced to deal with in the past.”

The two companies will work together to identify, develop, and deliver commercial-scale carbon capture projects globally, ensuring heavy industries and energy producers in these regions have more viable pathways to meet their emission reduction targets.

About Svante:

Headquartered in Vancouver, BC, Canada, Svante is a purpose-driven, leading carbon capture and removal solutions provider. The company makes nanoengineered filters and modular rotary contactor machines that capture and remove CO2 in an environmentally responsible way from industrial emissions and the air. Qlik Launches Open Lakehouse to Break Through Traditional Data Architecture Limits

The fully managed Apache Iceberg solution delivers real-time scale, 5x faster queries, and cross-engine access — with up to 50% lower costs

(BUSINESS WIRE)--Qlik®, a global leader in data integration, data quality, analytics, and artificial intelligence, today announced the launch of Qlik Open Lakehouse, a fully managed Apache Iceberg solution built into Qlik Talend Cloud. Designed for enterprises under pressure to scale faster and spend less, Qlik Open Lakehouse delivers real-time ingestion, automated optimization, and multi-engine interoperability — without vendor lock-in or operational overhead.

This marks a major step forward in the evolution of modern data architectures. As organizations accelerate AI adoption, the cost and rigidity of traditional data warehouses have become unsustainable. Qlik Open Lakehouse offers a new path: a fully managed lakehouse architecture powered by Apache Iceberg that delivers 2.5x–5x faster query performance and up to 50% lower infrastructure costs, while maintaining full compatibility with the most widely used analytics and machine learning engines.

“Performance and cost should no longer be a tradeoff in modern data architectures,” said Mike Capone, CEO of Qlik. “With Qlik Open Lakehouse, enterprises gain real-time scale, full control over their data, and the freedom to choose the tools that work best for them. We built this to meet the demands of AI and analytics at enterprise scale — without compromise.”

Qlik Open Lakehouse is built from the ground up to meet the scale, flexibility, and performance demands of modern enterprises — without the tradeoffs. It combines real-time ingestion, intelligent optimization, and true ecosystem interoperability in a single, fully managed platform.

Real-time ingestion at enterprise scale: Ingest millions of records per second from hundreds of sources — including cloud apps, SaaS, SAP, and mainframes — directly into Iceberg tables with low latency and high throughput.

Intelligent Iceberg optimization, fully automated: Qlik’s always-on adaptive Iceberg optimizer handles compaction, clustering, and pruning automatically, delivering up to 5x faster queries and 50% lower storage costs — no tuning required.

Open by design, interoperable by default: Access data in Iceberg tables using a variety of Iceberg-compatible engines, including Snowflake, Amazon Athena, Apache Spark, Trino, and SageMaker — without re-platforming or reprocessing.

Your compute, your cloud, your rules: Runs natively in your AWS VPC with Bring Your Own Compute (BYOC), giving you full control over performance, security, and cost.

One platform, end to end: From ingestion and transformation to governance, data quality, and FinOps visibility, Qlik provides a unified lakehouse experience — no patchwork, no handoffs.

"Enterprises are increasingly adopting lakehouse architectures to unify data across on-premises and cloud environments," said Matt Aslett, Director of Research, Analytics and Data at ISG Software Research. "Qlik Open Lakehouse, which leverages open standards such as Apache Iceberg, is well-positioned to meet the growing demand for real-time data access and multi-engine interoperability, enabling enterprises to harness the full potential of their data for AI and analytics initiatives."

As AI workloads demand faster access to broader, fresher datasets, open formats like Apache Iceberg are becoming the new foundation. Qlik Open Lakehouse responds to this shift by making it effortless to build and manage Iceberg-based architectures — without the need for custom code or pipeline babysitting. It also runs within the customer’s own AWS environment, ensuring data privacy, cost control, and full operational visibility.

“Qlik Open Lakehouse initiative is a significant development we're keenly watching,” shared David Navarro, Data Domain Architect at Toyota Motor Europe. “Large corporations like ours urgently need interoperability between diverse business units and partners, each managing its own technology stack and data sovereignty. Apache Iceberg is emerging as the key to zero-copy data sharing across vendor-independent lakehouses, and Qlik's commitment to delivering performance and control in these complex, dynamic landscapes is precisely what the industry requires.”

Qlik Open Lakehouse is available now in private preview and is scheduled to be generally available in July 2025. Private preview is limited — early access is encouraged for teams looking to modernize ahead of GA. To learn more and request early access, visit our website or connect with us at Qlik Connect, May 14–17 in Orlando.

Groundbreaking Memorandum of Understanding brings seamless, global connectivity closer to reality for connected cars, agriculture, and heavy machinery vehicles

(BUSINESS WIRE)--Intelsat and Cubic³ have successfully completed a critical vehicle satellite connectivity test, marking a significant milestone in their joint mission to create a seamless connectivity service for all types of vehicles. The test demonstrated successful integration between Intelsat satellites and Cubic³’s software platform, showcasing how terrestrial and non-terrestrial networks can seamlessly link to deliver always-on connectivity regardless of location.

“Our Memorandum of Understanding and successful test brings us closer to our vision of truly ubiquitous connectivity,” said Bruno Fromont, Intelsat Chief Technology Officer. “By combining Intelsat’s satellite expertise with Cubic³’s innovative connectivity platform, we’re creating solutions that will keep vehicles connected anywhere in the world, enabling critical functions from broadband connectivity, diagnostics to eventually supporting autonomous driving capabilities.”

The successful test focused on a commercial land mobile use case featuring Intelsat’s FlexMove Fleet product and Cubic³ Cloud interface, proving the viability of integrated connectivity solutions for heavy machinery customers. This demonstration represents a major step forward in the collaboration between Intelsat, Cubic³ and SoftBank Corp. The joint collaboration is expected to create a new, differentiated one-stop shop solution for the land mobile industry, offering customers the ability to create customized connectivity solutions that leverage both terrestrial cellular networks and non-terrestrial networks.

The collaboration addresses a critical gap in today’s increasingly connected world. Despite advances in autonomous mobility for connected cars, ships, drones, and other vehicles, many areas remain without ground-based mobile network coverage, requiring separate devices and accounts to connect to non-terrestrial networks. The Intelsat- Cubic³-SoftBank Corp. cooperative effort aims to eliminate this fragmentation, offering one device and one account that maintains connectivity across available networks worldwide.

Nick Power, Chief Technology Officer at Cubic³, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration: “Our work with Intelsat is foundational to delivering on the promise of software-defined vehicles. Car manufacturers need global, high-speed, always-on connectivity to transform into software-first entities and meet evolving consumer mobility demands. This test demonstrates how our technologies can work together to enable that future.”

The planned integrated solution will initially use geostationary (GEO) satellites for applications such as fleet management, telematics, predictive maintenance, and software updates in areas beyond terrestrial coverage. As new low Earth orbit (LEO) constellations launch, the system will evolve to support higher-bandwidth use cases including high-definition map downloads, and cloud-based vehicle diagnostics using digital twins. “Non-terrestrial networks are not just a backup option—they’re an essential component of the connectivity ecosystem that will power tomorrow’s vehicles,” Fromont said.

This collaboration also builds on the groundbreaking collaboration agreement signed in 2024 between SoftBank Corp. and Intelsat to create a single “Ubiquitous Network.” This network leverages the same standard architectures, interfaces, and processes that enable roaming between terrestrial cellular networks today, accelerating the commercial adoption of mobility solutions based on new 3GPP 5G standards for non-terrestrial networks.

Why Digital Workplace Transformation Can’t Wait — Insights from Lenovo

  MORRISVILLE, N.C. - Wednesday, 14. May 2025 AETOSWire

New research reveals why most organizations are falling behind — and what it takes to unleash Gen AI’s full potential.

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- As Generative AI (Gen AI) reshapes how work gets done, companies that delay modernizing their digital workplaces risk falling behind. Lenovo’s latest global research report, Igniting Real Workplace Transformation, reveals a stark reality: organizations recognize the opportunity Gen AI affords, but most have yet to take meaningful action.

Based on a survey of 600 IT leaders, while over 80% believe Gen AI will reshape how work gets done, only 39% say they are actively transforming their workplaces today. Even more striking, 89% agree that achieving AI’s full benefits requires far more than deploying new tools — it demands a complete reinvention of the digital workplace.

True workplace transformation means reimagining how people, technology, and processes come together around a shared vision for innovation and growth.

"Organizations that define a clear, personalized vision for transformation — and act decisively — will be the ones who unlock Gen AI’s full value," said Rakshit Ghura, Vice President and General Manager, Digital Workplace Solutions, Lenovo.

“Transformation is no longer a future ambition — it’s a present necessity. Those who lead will redefine not only day-to-day work, but also what’s possible for their people and businesses.”

The report identifies the top barriers slowing progress toward digital workplace transformation. It provides a clear, strategic roadmap to help organizations accelerate adoption, overcome complexity, and unlock Gen AI’s full value.

The Future Workplace: Powered by Evolution

So, what does that look like? The future of work isn’t just about adopting new tools — it’s about unleashing new possibilities. Imagine a digital workplace where:

Hyper-personalized Gen AI tools eliminate friction in daily workflows—simplifying tasks, reducing delays, and enhancing focus

IT support is seamless and intuitive

Security and scalability happen effortlessly in the background

IQM’s First Quantum Computer in Asia-Pacific Goes Online, Set to Open Office in Seoul

The expansion builds on IQM’s first quantum computer in the Asia-Pacific region (APAC) installed at Chungbuk National University (CBNU) in South Korea.

This marks a remarkable milestone by IQM for delivering and installing the system at CBNU in four months.

In fostering growth and innovation in key markets, IQM aims to advance quantum technology in Korea through collaboration with key players.

With the appointment of Youngsim Kim, as country manager, the Seoul office will open in June 2025, making it IQM's second office in APAC after Singapore.

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- IQM Quantum Computers, a global leader in superconducting quantum computers, has announced expanding its presence in Asia-Pacific with a new office opening in South Korea in June 2025, following the installation of its first quantum system at Chungbuk National University (CBNU).

The office in Seoul reinforces IQM’s dedication to collaborating with research and academic institutions, high-performance computing (HPC) centers, and enterprises in advancing quantum technology. It also supports South Korea in building a vibrant quantum ecosystem and achieving the goals of its national quantum strategy.

As part of the expansion, IQM has appointed Youngsim Kim as a Country Manager for South Korea. “We are excited to welcome Youngsim, and with a wealth of quantum knowledge, leadership experience and regional expertise, we are confident she will drive our growth and strategic initiatives in Korea,” said Mikko Välimäki, Co-CEO of IQM Quantum Computers.

Kim has over a decade of experience in various industries and a track record in sales, business transformations and change, and people leadership.

“I am particularly impressed with IQM’s innovative technology approach and strategic focus on its global expansion. I am eager to contribute to the company’s growth by driving new business opportunities and supporting customers,” she stated.

This expansion builds on IQM’s delivery of IQM Spark, a 5-qubit superconducting on-premises quantum computer at Chungbuk National University, marking a significant achievement for the company in deploying the system within four months.

Cho Young-chul, Head of Chungbuk National University’s Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation, said, "We hope that it will serve as a bridgehead to strengthen the competitiveness of future industries by carrying out practical R&D and spreading academic results using quantum computers," adding, "We will integrate quantum computing with various fields to support the development of talented people and the leading development of the quantum industry in Chungbuk."

“This latest deployment and record lead time further cements our role as a global leader in accelerating the adoption of quantum computing by making quantum computers more open, accessible and practical for researchers and university students worldwide,” added Välimäki.
