Under the Theme: ‘UAE Unites Us’

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates - Sunday, November 22nd 2015 [ME NewsWire]

Under the patronage of Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, the Ministry of Interior will participate in the National Sports Day initiative; which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai. The National Sports Day activities will be held on November 25th under the theme the ‘UAE Unites Us’, in cooperation with the sporting and educational institutions. The initiative aims to engage all segments of society in an open day with various sporting events and activities.

Following a recent meeting held to discuss the organization of sporting activities, Colonel Mohammed Hamid bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Chairman of the Police Sports Association, announced that the association has approved its plan for the sporting activities, including Sports Day.  Held in cooperation with a number of sporting institutions and authorities, a number of activities and events will be held for the personnel of various police commands within the UAE and the MoI. He said that these activities are organized to not only promote sports and participation in such events, but to also engage the community and enhance the levels of interaction.

Colonel Al Dhaheri additionally said that the Police Sports Association will organize more than one event within the agenda of the National Sports Day, to be held across the emirates. This will be done in coordination and cooperation with the police commands in the UAE as part of their leading role in active participation in national events. “National Sports Day serves as a national expression of our cohesive society, as all societal segments and classes come together with love for the UAE and its wise leadership. The Police Sports Association continuously strives to raise the level of sports in a way that welcomes everyone; and in a way that consolidates and instills the concepts of patriotism, leadership and loyalty to this generous country,” he said.

He stressed the keenness of the MoI to participate in National Sports Day, as per the directives of the police command that coincide with the importance they place on police sports. Additionally, the Sports Day falls in line with the Ministry’s strategy to disseminate sporting activities and promote athletics amongst its staff. Colonel Al Dhaheri noted how sporting activities benefit and significantly impact the health of the policemen, how they develop their physical, psychological, and cognitive abilities, and how sports enable them to perform their duties to the fullest.

Colonel Al Dhaheri also explained that various sporting programs and events will be organized in every emirate, under the supervision of the Commander-in-Chief of Police. The events will be held from 10 am until 10 pm, with open participation for everyone. There will also be a media center in the Police Sports Association, which will receive all the news reports and pictures from the events from the police commands, in coordination with the Security Media Department, to be published in the local newspapers and TV channels in the UAE.
