Throughout history, Arab women have demonstrated their strength and independence in the face of various challenges, whether they be social, economic, or even political. These stories not only inspire women in the region but also inspire women worldwide. Yagi Launching Cotton iD, a proprietary system for clarifying the traceability of organic cotton.

TOKYO - Monday, 30. October 2023

From field to yarn; Partnership with Nahar Spinning Mills Limited and our group company Yamaya Orimono to achieve reliable traceability.

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Yagi & Co., Ltd. (TOKYO:7460) (https://www.yaginet.co.jp/en/index.html) announces that we have made and started operating a proprietary system for consistent traceability management, from field to yarn, via a proprietary management system that links the international certifications for the organic cotton produced in India that we handle.

Complexity of organic cotton certification

There are several international certifications and standards for organic cotton. These begins with Ginning, the process of separating the seed and cotton from the harvested cotton ball and cotton to ensure traceability for yarn, fabrics, and the final product. However, for processes prior to that stage, the certification standard for organic agricultural products is applied to cotton balls and the field.

Existence of these two different certifications makes it difficult to achieve consistent traceability management for organic cotton (products). In the past, there were cases in which large-scale fraud came to light related to organic cotton in India, the world’s largest producer country of organic cotton.

Traceability aimed for by Cotton iD

We made and started operating a proprietary management system that links the two international certifications for the organic cotton produced in India that we handle. This system enables consistent traceability management from the cotton field to thread. Through this system, we can achieve incredibly transparent traceability for 85% or more of the organic cotton that we handle, from cotton field to thread. We started distribution of products with our brand “Unito Organic” which covers yarn, textile & garment. We can provide certifications of this management to customers purchasing applicable organic cotton from our Company.

Organic Cotton and Us

We are GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) member since 2006 and one of Japan’s top companies in terms of the volume of internationally certified organic cotton handled. Also, we participate in activities to support the conversion to organic farming for cotton farmers in India, continue to provide school support for the children of farmers, and have worked to establish sustainable frameworks of organic cotton.

We have a group company “Tsubame Towel” (https://tsubame-towel.com/) which produces the largest volume of organic cotton towel in Japan. We also have Yamaya Orimono Co., Ltd. (https://yamayaorimono.co.jp/) - specialist in yarn processing which is also GOTS-certified. Organic cotton is an extremely important part of our Group.

“We are so much aware of the need for traceability management that goes further in terms of traceability transparency, which is particularly important in the textile industry. By having support of the spinning mill, we want to make our management system firm, and provide safer and more reliable organic cotton to countries all over the world in order to proceed with our sustainable business.” - Yamaya Orimono Co., Ltd. -

European organic agriculture ensures environmental sustainability

Organic farming is an agricultural method that aims to produce food using natural substances and processes. This means that organic farming tends to have a limited environmental impact as it encourages the responsible use of energy and natural resources, the maintenance of biodiversity, the preservation of regional ecological balances, the enhancement of soil fertility, the maintenance of water quality. In these frames the European certified organic products are those which have been produced, stored, processed, handled and marketed in accordance with precise technical specifications (standards) and certified as "organic" by a certification body.

Once conformity with organic standards has been verified by a certification body, the product is afforded a label. This label will differ depending on the certification body but can be taken as an assurance that the essential elements constituting an "organic" product have been met from the farm to the market. It is important to note that an organic label applies to the production process, ensuring that the product has been produced and processed in an ecologically sound manner. So European organic products are the result of farming the earth without using chemical fertilizers, and toxic pesticides. The fight against the diseases of the plants and the fertilizing of the ground are taking place with natural methods and organic supplies. The reliability of organic products is based on a strict control system and certification which is described in European Union's laws. According to this system, a producer is being controlled in all production phases and up until the disposal.

As a result of the above  European organic farming  produce food of high nutritional value in sufficient quantity, maintain and increase soil fertility in the long-term, work as much as possible with materials and substances that can be reused or recycled, reduce all forms of pollution from agricultural practices, preserve the genetic diversity of agricultural ecosystems, including the protection of plants and wildlife, encourage and increase biological cycles in agricultural systems, work as much as possible in closed systems in relation to organic matter and nutrients

The EU Financed campaign EU Organic Journey, with the participation of the organizations Agrodiatrofiki Sympraxi Perifereias Stereas Elladas (ASPSE)- Coordinator from Greece, Biocarpathia Cooperative - Project Partner from Romania and National Organic Association (NAO)- Project Partner from Bulgaria aims to promote and increase the awareness regarding the European organic products from Greece, Romania and Bulgaria to consumers in UAE, Saudi Arabia and USA .

KnowBe4 Analysis Finds Security Awareness Training and Simulated Phishing Effective in Reducing Cybersecurity Risk

New KnowBe4 “Data Confirms Value of Security Awareness Training and Simulated Phishing” white paper now available

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- KnowBe4, the provider of the world’s largest security awareness training and simulated phishing platform, today announced it has released a new analysis of the effectiveness of security awareness training and simulated phishing on reducing cybersecurity risk, based on data from over 60,000 individual KnowBe4 customer organizations worldwide.

The new KnowBe4 white paper, “Data Confirms Value of Security Awareness Training and Simulated Phishing”, is based on the largest analysis of its kind, with over 32 million individual end users, who took over 493 million Phishing Security Tests (PSTs) and participated in awareness training at least once a year.

Highlights from the study include:

Groups that did frequent PSTs performed better in detecting simulated phishing campaigns than groups that did not.

The more frequently that groups did PSTs, the better the users performed on simulated phishing tests. The more PSTs, the better.

Groups that did weekly PSTs were 2.74 times more effective in reducing risk than groups that only did less than quarterly PSTs.

The longer a group trained, the better they did on simulated phishing tests.

Groups that did both training and simulated phishing tests did the best.

“Based on the massive amount of data that we analyzed from around the world, everyone should be conducting frequent simulated phishing tests as part of their security awareness training program to get the highest level of impact and most effective cybersecurity risk reduction,” said Roger Grimes, data-driven defense evangelist, KnowBe4. “Phishing and social engineering account for 70-90% of all malicious data breaches, so focusing on ways to mitigate it are critical to your organization’s overarching cyber defense strategy. We are thrilled to finally have the concrete data to confirm the true value of security awareness training and simulated phishing.”

KnowBe4 customers attest to the important role the platform plays in cyber defense and risk mitigation, along with the overall effectiveness of incorporating security awareness training and simulated phishing into an organization’s cybersecurity strategy:

“Security awareness training and continuous assessment has helped our organization improve our employees' ability to recognize and avoid interacting with suspicious content in their day-to-day roles. Threats are ever evolving and defensive mechanisms will inevitably fail. When they do, it's important to have people engaged and connected to trends and suspicious patterns to act as a last line of defense. KnowBe4 has helped us minimize the effort required from our security team to deliver relevant and beneficial information to our employees,” said D.S., sr. manager, IT Security Operations.

“Our security awareness program is a vital component of our defense-in-depth strategy. There is no combination of technical controls we can ever put in place to mitigate all the risks we face. AiTM and other advanced attacks are only going to increase. Our employees are our most valued assets and the front line of defense for our organization. Partnering with KnowBe4 to build and consistently improve a comprehensive awareness program helps us proactively address new and emerging threats,” said A.B., IT security manager.

Reporting to Senior Vice President, Asia, Wilson Lee, AIT’s Regional Director of Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, Siau Hwee Tan, oversees the new AIT-Penang and AIT-Singapore offices, which provide comprehensive freight forwarding services with a primary focus on air and ocean imports and exports.

“Manufacturing is growing quickly in Southeast Asia, especially in Malaysia, and our subject matter experts in both newly opened locations are already serving customers in the automotive, industrial and technology sectors,” Lee said. “AIT also has well-established global networks to support special shipping requirements for consumer retail, food logistics and life sciences, so we are well-positioned to offer seamless onboarding for customers in those industries.”

Both locations in Malaysia and Singapore are situated near major airports and seaports. The new facilities join more than a dozen AIT offices across Asia – and more than 110 across the globe. The company expects to open additional facilities in the region in 2024.

Merck Strengthens Oncology Pipeline Through Strategic Partnership with Hengrui for Next-Generation Selective PARP1 Inhibitor and Antibody-Drug Conjugate

DARMSTADT, Germany - Monday, 30. October 2023 AETOSWire

Collaboration to develop, manufacture and commercialize next-generation selective PARP1 inhibitor HRS-1167, with option to develop, manufacture and commercialize Claudin18.2 antibody-drug conjugate SHR-A1904

Agreement represents strong strategic fit that leverages the company’s internal DNA damage response expertise and in-house ADC capabilities

Not intended for US-, Canada- or UK-based media

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Merck, a leading science and technology company, today announced a strategic collaboration with Jiangsu Hengrui Pharmaceuticals Co. Ltd. (Hengrui). The partnership includes an exclusive license worldwide (ex-China) to develop, manufacture and commercialize Hengrui’s next-generation potent and selective PARP1 (poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase 1) trapping inhibitor HRS-1167. The agreement also includes an option to an exclusive license worldwide (ex-China) to develop, manufacture and commercialize Hengrui’s Claudin-18.2 antibody-drug conjugate (ADC) SHR-A1904. In addition, Merck has the option to co-promote both assets in China.

“This partnership with Hengrui fully aligns with both our external innovation ambition and our oncology research and development strategy by diversifying our robust internal pipeline in our focus areas of DNA damage response inhibition and antibody-drug conjugates,” said Danny Bar-Zohar, Global Head of Research & Development and Chief Medical Officer for the Healthcare business of Merck. “The synergies of these assets with our portfolio offer broad potential for development and the opportunity to advance more therapeutic options for patients with difficult-to-treat cancers. We look forward to leveraging the significant expertise of Hengrui and our strong collaboration ahead.”

Compared with first-generation PARP inhibitors, the selectivity and differentiated safety profile of PARP1-specific inhibitors could offer the opportunity to expand their therapeutic impact in established and new indications. HRS-1167 has shown encouraging signs of clinical activity and patient benefit in Phase I trials as a monotherapy and has higher potential to combine with chemotherapy as well as novel agents, compared with previous attempts with first-generation PARP inhibitors. This aligns with the company’s overarching development approach of DNA damage response (DDR) inhibitors, exploring their synergistic activity and maximizing their potential impact in combination with other anticancer therapies and approaches. Merck is researching the potential to treat cancer through inhibition of multiple targets in the DDR cascade, including ATR, ATM, DNA-PK, and PARP.

Additionally, should the company exercise its option, SHR-A1904 would complement Merck’s internal preclinical and clinical ADC portfolio applying different linker payload technologies. The first ADC developed using Merck’s own technology, M9140, a CEACAM5-targeting ADC, is being evaluated in an ongoing Phase Ia/b study in patients with metastatic colorectal cancer.

"Given the high unmet need in oncology, we are excited to work closely with Merck to bring Hengrui's innovations to cancer patients worldwide,” said Frank Jiang, board member and Chief Strategy Officer of Hengrui Pharma. “Partnering with Merck on our PARP franchise is an important milestone on Hengrui's globalization journey. We look forward to advancing our molecules rapidly through development and reaching patients in need.”

Under the terms of the agreement, Merck will provide Hengrui with an upfront payment of €160 million. Hengrui will receive payments for the achievement of certain development, regulatory and commercial milestones and tiered royalties on net sales by Merck. Potential payments may total up to €1.4 billion.

Epsilon Advanced Materials (EAM) Announces Investment of $650M Manufacturing Facility in North Carolina to Strengthen EV Battery Industry in the United States

 BOLIVIA, N.C. - Friday, 27. October 2023

First and largest investment from an Indian company in the U.S. electric vehicle market, poised to power 1.10 million EV vehicles by 2030

New Manufacturing Plant to create approximately 500 jobs in the Wilmington area

Groundbreaking slated for 2024, operations to begin in 2026

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Epsilon Advanced Materials (EAM), India’s leading battery materials company, announced today, alongside N.C. Governor Roy Cooper at Brunswick County Community College, plans to build a $650 million graphite anode manufacturing facility in Brunswick County of North Carolina. The facility is the first and largest Indian investment in the U.S. electric vehicle (EV) battery industry.

“We’re proud to have North Carolina at the focal point of our U.S. manufacturing strategy. With its favorable geographical location, business supportive policies and availability of a skilled talent pool, we are confident that the investment in the state is a major step towards creating sustainable energy transportation alternatives,” said EAM Managing Director Vikram Handa.

Gov. Cooper said North Carolina welcomes EAM and the development of its new 1.5 million-square-foot facility, which is expected to create approximately 500 new jobs for the Greater Wilmington area. “North Carolina continues to lead the way in the transition to a clean energy economy by attracting good-paying jobs from great companies like Epsilon that make our state stronger and healthier,” said Governor Cooper. “This historic investment will bring 500 clean energy jobs to Brunswick County, helping both our economy and our environment.”

“Having an environmentally friendly world-class facility in North Carolina resolves supply chain concerns that the automotive industry has experienced in recent years,” said EAM CEO Sunit Kapur. “We are proud that with our tech capability to manufacture both natural and synthetic graphite, we will be able to provide graphite anodes to the growing EV battery industry faster, more reliably, and at a competitive cost without import challenges.”

The company plans to break ground in 2024 and begin manufacturing in 2026, reaching full capacity by 2031. When operational, the facility will utilize green technologies to produce high-capacity anode materials for EV batteries.

Establishing a manufacturing plant in Brunswick County, North Carolina, offers strategic advantages, such as proximity to the Wilmington port, automotive suppliers, Southeastern vehicle manufacturing facilities and the local community college. The location also streamlines logistics, reduces costs and provides access to the growing electric vehicle market. The skilled local workforce, with support from the community college, and potential economic incentives enhance the business environment, while geographic features offer resilience and sustainability.

Localizing the battery manufacturing ecosystem will not only provide strategic advantages but also aligns with the broader goal of helping automakers leverage EV subsidies under the U.S. Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). This localization will boost domestic manufacturing, creating good-paying jobs and fostering economic growth within the community.

These efforts will contribute to building more resilient, secure and trusted supply chains, which are essential for the sustainability and competitiveness of the EV industry in the United States.

EAM, a wholly owned subsidiary of Epsilon Carbon Pvt Ltd., is already in discussions with local raw material suppliers and transportation partners for its North Carolina operations. When fully operational, the EAM facility will produce 50,000 tons per annum (TPA) of graphite anode.

The first outcome of this collaboration will add Microsoft’s Azure OpenAI Service into FactoryTalk® Design Studio™ to deliver industry-first capabilities accelerating time-to-market for their customers building industrial automation systems.

“The skilled labor shortage and ensuing lost productivity is the biggest challenge facing industrial organizations and their service providers today. These shortages are increasing the need, value, and complexity of automation projects when the ecosystem of service providers is less equipped to deliver on time, quality, and budget,” said Matthew Littlefield, President LNS Research. “Generative AI has already proven its ability to capture the imagination and enhance the productivity of workers in a range of IT and business scenarios. Rockwell Automation and Microsoft’s strategic partnership is an exciting and high-potential step forward in addressing these long-term structural challenges.”

Rockwell and Microsoft recognize that using AI to enhance automation across various roles, from decision makers to control engineers and operators, is a key area where they can come together to help customers streamline their processes and drive worker productivity.

“Rockwell’s decade-long relationship with Microsoft illustrates our ongoing commitment to providing best-of-breed solutions that empower customers and support our shared vision of driving industries forward through innovation and collaboration,” said Blake Moret, Chairman and CEO of Rockwell Automation. “Together, we're not just addressing current market needs; we're shaping the future of technology in industrial automation.”

Adding Azure OpenAI Service into FactoryTalk Design Studio helps engineers generate code using natural language prompts, automating routine tasks and improving design efficiency. It will also empower seasoned engineers to accelerate development and mentor newcomers on a learning path more efficiently and effectively. Additionally, it will assist in finding relevant help from vast collections of information to further educate developers. Rockwell and Microsoft see a bright future in extending this integrated technology to solve other challenges, including Quality Management and Improvement, Failure Mode Analysis, and training frontline workers to execute manufacturing processes through chat-based collaboration with experienced human workers as well as Azure Open AI Service-based chatbots.

“The explosive growth and interest in artificial intelligence is driving organizations to partner with Microsoft as a trusted cloud and AI provider,” said Judson Althoff, executive vice president and chief commercial officer at Microsoft. “I am pleased to further strengthen our longstanding relationship with Rockwell by combining its expertise in industrial automation with Microsoft’s generative AI technology to help industrial professionals expedite the creation of complex control systems, optimize the efficiency of their operations, and spur greater innovation across industrial organizations.”

Additionally, Rockwell and Microsoft are continuing to explore ways to advance innovation in the industrial metaverse. Both companies are using their respective IoT capabilities, cloud datasets, simulations and AI to design and build products more effectively, more efficiently, and more sustainably.

The work between Rockwell and Microsoft will be showcased during Rockwell’s 2023 Automation Fair on Nov. 6-9, 2023, in Boston, Massachusetts.

Boehringer Ingelheim’s SPEVIGO® (spesolimab) wins 2023 Prix Galien USA Best Orphan/Rare Diseases Solution Award

(BUSINESS WIRE) -- Boehringer Ingelheim today announced that SPEVIGO® (spesolimab) has been recognized as Best Orphan/Rare Diseases Solution of 2023 by the Galien Foundation. The Prix Galien USA Award was presented last night in New York.

Prix Galien Foundation fosters, recognizes and rewards excellence in scientific innovation to improve the state of human health. In 2022 the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved spesolimab as a treatment option for GPP flares in adults and the European Medicine Agency granted a conditional market authorization as first-in-class treatment option for GPP flares in adults.

“Being nominated and winning the Prix Galien for SPEVIGO® is a testament to the exceptional work of our research and development teams to bring the first targeted and highly effective immunomodulatory biologic to people living with generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP). We are honored to be recognized among the best of the best in the pharmaceutical industry,” said Michel Pairet, member of the Board of Managing Directors and Head of the Innovation Unit. “Our scientists have achieved deep biological insights into GPP uncovering the key pathway driving the disease, and based on this developed the first specific treatment for GPP flares.”

“SPEVIGO® winning the Prix Galien is a great honor! It reinforces our values and mission to bring innovative treatments better and faster to the people that need it most, especially with rare diseases like GPP. GPP flares may appear suddenly, intensify quickly and can be life-threatening if left untreated, leaving those affected and their loved ones feeling anxious and uncertain about their future. We are humbled by the positive impact SPEVIGO® has had on GPP patients across the world, and take this recognition as a driver to continue our pursuit for their continued benefit,” said Carinne Brouillon, Member of the Board of Managing Directors and Head of Human Pharma at Boehringer Ingelheim.

"We are delighted to extend the Prix Galien legacy to another distinguished cohort of winners who have demonstrated the unparalleled skill, innovation, and dedication required across the life sciences industry,” said Bruno Cohen, Chairman of The Galien Foundation.

Late-breaking data from the EFFISAYIL™ 2 trial presented in 2023 showed that spesolimab prevents GPP flares. It significantly reduced the risk of occurrence of GPP flares by 84% over 48 weeks compared to placebo. Furthermore, the trial with 123 patients demonstrated no flares after Week 4 of spesolimab treatment in the high dose group1. Boehringer Ingelheim has submitted spesolimab for regulatory approval based on these data to, not only provide patients with a specific treatment for GPP flares but moving forward also for the prevention of flares.

MSCI to Reclassify the MSCI Nigeria Indexes from Frontier Markets to Standalone Markets Status

NEW YORK - Friday, 27. October 2023

(BUSINESS WIRE)--MSCI Inc. (NYSE: MSCI), a leading provider of critical decision support tools and services for the global investment community, announced today that the MSCI Nigeria Indexes will be reclassified from Frontier Markets to Standalone Markets status in one step coinciding with the February 2024 Index Review.

This conclusion follows feedback received from market participants from its recent extended Consultation on a Market Reclassification Proposal for the MSCI Nigeria Indexes.

Since March 2020, liquidity challenges in the Nigerian foreign exchange (FX) market have consistently affected the accessibility of its equity market, leading to ongoing capital repatriation concerns and a significant gap between the official and parallel exchange rates for the Nigerian Naira. This has caused international institutional investors to face recurring challenges with index replicability and investability of the MSCI Nigeria Indexes and other indexes they are part of.

On June 22, 2023, MSCI announced that feedback from market participants obtained as part of the initial consultation conducted from June 2022 to June 2023 suggested that the limited accessibility of the Nigerian equity market would warrant the removal of the MSCI Nigeria Indexes from the MSCI Frontier Markets Indexes. However, MSCI extended the consultation period to September 29, 2023 to allow more time for the liquidity situation in the Nigerian FX market to stabilize following measures announced by the Central Bank of Nigeria on June 14, 2023. No significant improvements in FX liquidity were observed by market participants during the extended consultation period, confirming that the ease of capital inflows and outflows in the MSCI Nigeria Indexes is not to the standards expected from Frontier Markets. This has led to MSCI’s decision to reclassify the MSCI Nigeria Indexes.

In order to facilitate index replicability at the time of the reclassification, MSCI will delete each Nigerian security from the MSCI Frontier Markets Indexes at a price that is effectively zero as of the close of February 29, 2024. More information on this and other details related to the implementation of the reclassification will be shared at a date closer to the reclassification.

It is not possible to invest directly in an index. Exposure to an asset class or trading strategy or other category represented by an index is only available through third party investable instruments (if any) based on that index. MSCI does not issue, sponsor, endorse, market, offer, review or otherwise express any opinion regarding any fund, ETF, derivative or other security, investment, financial product or trading strategy that is based on, linked to or seeks to provide an investment return related to the performance of any MSCI index (collectively, “Index Linked Investments”). MSCI Inc. is not an investment adviser or fiduciary and MSCI makes no representation regarding the advisability of investing in any Index Linked Investments.

Index returns do not represent the results of actual trading of investible assets/securities. MSCI maintains and calculates indexes, but does not manage actual assets. The calculation of indexes and index returns may deviate from the stated methodology. Index returns do not reflect payment of any sales charges or fees an investor may pay to purchase the securities underlying the index or Index Linked Investments. The imposition of these fees and charges would cause the performance of an Index Linked Investment to be different than the MSCI index performance.

The Information may contain back tested data. Back-tested performance is not actual performance, but is hypothetical. There are frequently material differences between back tested performance results and actual results subsequently achieved by any investment strategy.

Constituents of MSCI equity indexes are listed companies, which are included in or excluded from the indexes according to the application of the relevant index methodologies. Accordingly, constituents in MSCI equity indexes may include MSCI Inc., clients of MSCI or suppliers to MSCI. Inclusion of a security within an MSCI index is not a recommendation by MSCI to buy, sell, or hold such security, nor is it considered to be investment advice.
